CD PROJEKT RED continues expanding Night City with a free update arriving October 22, introducing new gameplay features, customization options, and content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
Just when it seemed CD PROJEKT RED had finished expanding Cyberpunk 2077, the studio has announced another potentially substantial update to its acclaimed open-world RPG. Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, officially titled the Edgerunners 2 Update, arrives October 22, 2026, bringing new content inspired by the recently released Netflix anime alongside additional gameplay features and items.
Nearly six years after its original release, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to evolve, and Update 2.5 could become one of its most significant additions since Phantom Liberty and the transformative Update 2.0 overhaul in 2023.
Expanding Cyberpunk 2077’s Gameplay

Among the reported additions surrounding Update 2.5 are dual-wielding and expanded cyberware customization, two features that could further enhance the game’s already impressive combat and progression systems.
Dual-wielding, in particular, has been a long-requested feature among players. Its inclusion could introduce another layer of flexibility to Cyberpunk 2077’s combat, especially for those who prefer aggressive, fast-paced gunplay.
Cyberware customization is equally intriguing. Following the massive changes introduced in Update 2.0, cybernetic enhancements became an essential component of character builds, influencing everything from survivability to mobility and combat effectiveness. Further customization could provide players with even more freedom in how they develop V.
However, the extent of these additions and how they’ll function remains unclear until CD PROJEKT RED provides its full breakdown.
The Biggest Update Since Phantom Liberty?

Phantom Liberty and Update 2.0 represented a defining moment for Cyberpunk 2077, fundamentally restructuring its progression, perks, combat mechanics, and cyberware systems.
Since then, CD PROJEKT RED has continued improving Night City through several free updates. Update 2.1 introduced the NCART metro system, expanded romantic interactions, and additional activities, while subsequent releases brought vehicle customization, Photo Mode improvements, and numerous quality-of-life refinements.
What makes Update 2.5 particularly interesting is its potential to introduce new gameplay possibilities rather than simply refine existing features.
Alongside the anticipated combat and customization additions, players can expect content inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, which premiered on Netflix on October 20 with ten episodes featuring an entirely new cast and standalone story.
If these features prove substantial, Update 2.5 could become one of Cyberpunk 2077’s most meaningful free updates in years.
Night City Isn’t Finished Yet

CD PROJEKT RED will reveal additional details during a special REDstreams presentation on October 21, with official patch notes scheduled for publication the same day.
Personally, what makes this announcement exciting is that Cyberpunk 2077 continues receiving attention well beyond its original release. Night City remains one of gaming’s most visually striking and immersive environments, but it’s the freedom to experiment with weapons, cyberware, and different character builds that makes returning so satisfying.
If Update 2.5 meaningfully expands those systems, it could offer another compelling reason to revisit Night City or start an entirely new playthrough.
Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 launches October 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 release following at a later date.
