With the next Z Fold just over the horizon, I thought it be nice to look back at the current Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6. Quite possibly one of the more expensive smartphones to release in the past year here in the states at $1900(before trades), was it worth the hefty price tag and does it hold the title of being the best foldable?

Style

Still crazy to think the original Z Fold came out in 2019 and how the “Z” model line has evolved over the years. I’ll say using Z Fold devices for quite some time this was the most redefined version yet.

First thing you notice is the 6.3” Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz display that has 2600 nits and 410ppi and this being outfitted with Gorilla Glass Victus 2. Unfolded on the inside is a 7.6” Dynamic AMOLED 2x 120Hz display that also has 2600 nits. Samsung managed to make this one of the thinnest foldables unfolded at 5.6mm while folded it sat at 12.1mm. Overall it weighed just 239g putting it on the same scale as the OnePlus Open.

This is one of my more squared off Z Fold devices and it’s welcomed. It has a USB-C port on the bottom, stereo speakers, volume rocker, and the power button that has a dual role as a fingerprint sensor.

Hardware

With this being released in the Summer of last year it utilizes a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, Adreno 750 and comes with 12GB RAM. There are storage capacities of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB for your choosing. Hiding between this thin frame is a 4400mAh battery. It does support wireless charging at 15W and wired will be 25W. Even though it doesn’t have the biggest battery it is still sufficient for working around your daily needs and what I did on it a lot was gaming and media consumption.

OneUI / Galaxy AI

Samsung has one of the more user-friendly UIs around giving so many options to customize the device to your liking. Also adding other features such as Circle to Search and even taking advantage of apps like Google Gemini if you feel the need for something different. Multitasking is easy allowing you to split screens on the unfolded display or you could even have a floating window around too. While doing this the device never got sluggish.

Cameras

Like previous models and its S Ultra siblings its equipped with a triple camera system. That would be 50MP(Wide), 12MP(Ultrawide), and 10MP(Telephoto). While on the front cover there is a 10MP lens while inside under the display is a 4MP camera. I have to say I was quite impressed with the camera setup on the Galaxy Z Fold6. Gave off some nice color details with that Super HDR. Zooming in on subject still provided clarity in great lighting thanks in part to some AI capabilities. You will notice some of the pics I took of WTC and the bridge. Lowlight shots fared well also. It might be my favorite camera of the Z series. I still would love to see them on par with the S24/S25 Ultra. Hopefully with the next iteration but respectable job. I didn’t use the selfie camera or under the screen cameras that much though.

Usage

Over the past year this device has held up tremendously. Display inside and out still up to par. Loving to watch content on it and playing games without it getting too hot and overheating. Samsung has been good at pushing out numerous updates to keep it in line with its other devices. I was mostly using it with T-Mobile and Verizon services as the device is unlocked. Getting good reception and data speeds here in NYC. Putting it in my pocket wasn’t bad but you can see from the pictures it’s still a bit wider than the S25 Ultra but that’s understandable.

Verdict

With this phone on its way to being discontinued and the Z Fold 7 just around the corner, it may still be nice to look at it if the next device is similar and are looking to save a few extra bucks. You can pickup a Z Fold 6 256GB for alittle over $1100 right now on Amazon.
