Why It Matters

For a long time, Fujifilm photographers/videographers had no options for autofocus lenses not made by Fujifilm. While the lenses that Fujifilm makes are undoubtedly superbly constructed, they were also expensive – especially on the telephoto end. The addition of these two options fills a necessary gap for the Fujifilm shooter whether they’re looking for a fast prime for portraits, like with the 23mm F1.4 DC DN, or a wildlife photographer that needs the reach that a 100-400mm F5.6-6.3 DG DN provides.

There is some distinction between the construction of the two lenses that need to be addressed. The 23mm DC DN (as the DC designation implies) was built specifically for APS-C cameras whereas the 100-400mm F5.6-6.3 DG DN is a full-frame lens with a mount adapted for the Fujifilm X-mount. Each of these new lenses is designed with durability in mind, offering dust and moisture resistance. Both lenses have been available for Sony and Leica mount systems but bringing them over to Fujifilm is something that’s sure to please.

Pricing and Availability

The two lenses will be available in their Fujifilm X-Mount variants later this month, September 21st. The Sigma 100-400mm F5.6-6.3 DG DN | Contemporary will retail for $949 and the Sigma 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary can be had for $549. You can learn more or preorder directly from Sigma.
