There’s really not much I can say about dashcams that I haven’t already said over and over again in past reviews. The short gist of it is that you need one, it has to be reliable, and if you can get one that is 4K, that’s even better. 4K dashcams aren’t hard to find anymore either as more and more brands have made the jump to UHD and myGEKOgear is one of those with their new ORBIT 960 UHD 4K Dashcam.

The myGEKOgear Orbit 960 is a 4K ultra high definition dashcam able to record video at 3840 x 2160p @ 30fps. It features a 2.7-inch LCD screen and a 140° wide-angle lens matted to a Sony Starvis sensor. It seems like the common theme among good dashcams is that they feature the Sony Starvis sensor and the Orbit 960 has it.

Other notable features include Wi-Fi built in, that works in conjunction with the myGEKOgear app. This allows you to access your dashcam from your phone and easily download recorded videos to share. The Orbit 960 is also equipped with GPS and built-in G-Sensor to automatically back up files when it senses a collision.

Lastly, the Orbit 960 is equipped with advanced safety features that some regular dashcams are not equipped with. It has Lane Departure Warning, Driver Fatigue Alarm, Front Collision Warning System, and Headlight Reminder. These are features found on some newer vehicles, so users of older vehicles might find these useful.

The myGEKOgear Orbit 960 isn’t too difficult to install either and it’s basically like any other dashcam. You can either just run the cable down your dash and straight into a 12V port, or you can attempt to hardwire it to your fuse box if you are technically inclined. You can also use something like the Dongar Technologies adapter that connects to a powered rearview mirror if you have one of those. Usage of the dashcam isn’t difficult either as it’s mostly a set-it and forget-it type device. It doesn’t have a touchscreen so you’ll have to make do with buttons.

In terms of video quality. It’s as you would expect from a 4K dashcam and one with a Sony Stravis sensor. The video is crisp and full of detail with good overall color. Even night video looks pretty good here.

FINAL THOUGHTS

myGEKOgear might not be a name we’ve featured on here often, but they actually make a wide range of dashcams. The Orbit 960 would be considered one of their top-tier models and I believe the only one that currently records in 4K. You’ll like it for the ease of use and installation while the 4K resolution helps capture all the detail you need when you need it. Overall, a very good dashcam that has several extra bells and whistles that make it stand out over some of its competition.
