After five years we finally return to the wizarding world made famous by author J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, but not in the way you may think. The story behind Fantastic Beasts.. is a clever one. The title is actually the name of one of Harry Potter’s textbook written by Newt Scamander. ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ contain the history of Magizoology (study of magical creatures) and describes 85 magical species found around the world. In the book, Scamander says that the information found were collected through observations made over many years of travel and across five continents. Which now brings us to the film. Taking place many many years before Harry Potter. This film brings us back to the world of wizards and creatures, but will focus on the misadventures of Newt Scamander played by extremely talented Eddie Redmayne. Joining Newt in his adventures are the wizardly sisters (Porpen)Tina and Queenie played by Katherine Waterston and Alison Sudol as well as a No-Maj (non-magic folk) named Jacob played by the hilarious Dan Fogler. Directed by David Yates, is no stranger to this world as he has directed four of the Potter films. The film features an amazing cast and crew but has a difficult task of re-establishing the world people have loved in a different period and time. Fantastic Beast is the first of three films covering the adventures that inspired the fictional book.
Here is the official synopsis:
““Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.”
