If you’re looking for a case that will help you portray the funner side of your personality, why not give Case-Mate’s Creature line a look. The Creature cases are silicone cases, but unlike ordinary boring silicone cases, the Creature line has style and personality. As you can tell by the name, these cases are somewhat made to mimic animals in some shape, way, or form. For the purpose of this review, I’ll be looking at the Waddler and the Ellie case which are the ones that Case-Mate sent for me to check out.
At first glance, I thought these were semi hard cases but in actuality, they are textured silicone cases. Now, I’m not usually a fan of silicone cases as I think they feel weird and usually attract a lot of lint from my pockets but the Case-Mate Creatures cases are different. They aren’t as slick feeling thanks in part to the textures that are molded into the case. These are great quality silicone cases that fit fairly snugly on the iPhone 5 and aren’t as loose as some other silicone cases are. Case-Mate also made individual openings for each of the ports and buttons on the iPhone which is great because it makes the case a bit sturdier as well instead of just having 1 huge hole a the bottoms for all the ports and speakers. Now, the Creatures cases also different from other silicone cases because Case-Mate has added something that is a bit “old school” in nature. Remember back then when we use to add little dangling accessories from our mobile phones? Well the Creatures cases have their own little dangly things that match the type of case you get. In this case, the Waddler gets some color matched penguin feet and the Ellie gets some peanuts.
In terms of protection, silicone cases have protected mobile phones for as far back as I can remember. These Case-Mate Creature cases are just as protective and feature good overall coverage and shock protection. They cover the back and all edges of the iPhone 5 and wrap around the screen a bit to protect the edges of the screen. This also means that you can lay the iPhone flat and it will not touch the surface you are laying it on.
I’d say that if you want a fun case, the Case-Mate Creatures collection is a good start. There are lots of fun designs and the case itself offers a good bit of protection. For the most part however, these cases lean more towards the younger crowd and women as I don’t really find these cases to be that manly. Again, these are fun cases that will add a bit of flash and character to your otherwise plain iPhone 5.
