I’m going to preface this review by stating right away that I have a genuine love for the Acer Predator series of gaming laptops. Whenever Acer gives me an opportunity to check out something in the gaming laptop space then I’m always down.

What did Acer give me to take a look at, play with and review? The Acer Predator Helios Neo 16S AI. I’ve been messing around with this laptop for about a month so far, played a shitload of games, watched some media and used it as an everyday PC and these are my thoughts.

DESIGN, LOOK, KEYBOARD, MOUSEPAD & PORTS

The Acer Predator has always relied on quality design that was always sleek and modern without being over the top. The Predator Helios Neo 16 sticks to that format with it’s slim and lightweight form factor. This machine is relatively thin considering it’s size and hardware. It’s nice to look at and nice to carry around as your everyday machine.

All of your usable ports are wrapped around the laptop and give you plenty of available USB ports so you don’t have to use any dongles. Typically nothing ever changes with ports other than how many and nobody has ever decided not to buy a gaming laptop for that reason, well, at least most gamers. You want ports, you got em, want more? Get a dongle.

The keyboard as always on an Acer Predator machine is good not great but functional, backlit and yes, of course, you can control the RGB. The mousepad on this laptop works well, although, personally I’m finding myself using a usb or wired mouse with my laptop if I’m using it at home but that’s a ME thing and not a problem with this laptop. All things considered the mousepad and keyboard could be better in function but they are servicable and usable and I don’t think you’ll consider it a problem but everyone is different.

GAMING ON THE PREDATOR HELIOS NEO 16S AI

Gaming on this machine in my experience has been a good time. Although I personally tend to game on smaller machines. I can always understand why a gamer would pick this gaming laptop at this size. Smaller and less cumbersome than those huge 18″ machines but bigger than a 14″ which is ideal to game on. This 16″ screen is actually the perfect size and in 2026 carry this thing around is nothing.

The Helios Neo 16s AI OLED screen is top notch. It’s bright, vibrant and when you play your games you can really see your games in all their splendor. I’ve played some of the best games on this laptop for the sake of this review and the Helios Neo 16s AI did not falter or stutter. Mind you, I do curate the settings on my games to somewhere between 1080p or 1440p because I’m framerates over resolution but the combination of this OLED screen and the onboard 5070ti take full advantage of the screen refresh rate and make playing your games an experience that you would feel like you would be getting on a machine at double the cost of this one. This laptop for me, is that good.

I didn’t find that even pushing this laptop to its limits really challenged it other than the normal things that happen when you play graphically intense games like Black Myth or Lies of P. Yes, it gets hot, that’s normal, yes the fans flare up, that’s normal, it may have crashed a time or two, that too, is also normal. Either way, this laptop handled it well, there weren’t too many repeat occurrences that I couldn’t resolve with some tinkering.

Benchmarking also isn’t my thing. So, I apologize there. I’ve always found those tests while useful, to be an overload of information. I download my games, from the 2d side scroller to the complex game like Final Fantasy 7 : Rebirth, make some setting changes and see how the machine handles it.

SPEAKER QUALITY IS F***IN INCREDIBLE ON THE HELIOS NEO 16S AI

The thing that shocked me with this laptop was the speaker quality. If you’ve ever read a review of mine as it pertains to gaming laptops then you know that I’ve never been a fan of laptop speakers because they’re never done right especially as form factors get thinner so you have to make tradeoffs. This laptop dispelled all of that for me. These speakers are some of the best I’ve ever heard on all of the gaming laptops I’ve used and I came to that realization playing Stellar Blade and Death Stranding 2 which rely heavily on soundtrack and visuals to tell their story.

Consuming media and playing music is always a good test for me as well but I don’t look too deep in the audio because that’s so much more complex than laptop speakers can provide but again, as with my games, I was impressed. Audio was crisp, it handled a mild bass boost pretty well without sounding like it’s under water and I was able to enjoy my media. If there is a surefire selling point on this laptop. It’s the speakers.

The spec sheet above is MY configuration for this laptop and this laptop is NO SLOUCH even in today’s gaming laptop market. In fact, I would argue that this laptop is properly specced to what most gamers would use. A lot of the time, even when building a PC we tend to “overpower” the PC we buy or use for futureproofing but in my opinion, PC gaming has plateaued so unless you have an unwavering desire to play all of your games in 4K, this laptop is powered just right for the money.

A GREAT OPTION IN A VERY EXPENSIVE MARKET [FINAL THOUGHTS]

In a world of incredibly overpriced gaming accessories and hardware this machine that I used for the past few weeks has been a reminder that yes, gaming, especially PC gaming is an expensive hobby and even more so now but you don’t have to go bankrupt to do so. The market for PC gaming has become so expensive that even me telling you a $1600 – $1800 is relatively affordable seems pretentious and out of touch but sometimes the market is up and sometimes it’s down. I was given the opportunity by Acer to try a number of gaming laptops for review but I chose this one because I felt like this was the one that you would get the most bang for the buck with. The others were extreme powerhouse machines that are worth the money if ya got it. This machine was “affordable” relative to the climate today.

I also don’t want to take away from what the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 S as a device is. It’s an incredibly well built, lightweight, capable and enjoyable gaming PC/laptop to play ALL of your PC games on. There is NO game that I played with the right setting that gave me any trouble.

The configuration that I had for this review was $1899.00 but that gives me 32gb of RAM and an RTX 5070ti but you don’t have to take this option. You can choose the option with the RTX 5060 for $1599 and still get a very capable and relatively affordable machine that plays all of your games with ease in 2026. Have you seen the prices of hardware nowadays? RAM in particular? Yeah, so a gaming laptop of this type under $2000 is fair.

Acer always has something for the gamers, we here at Gstyle just highlighted their latest laptops for the gamer HERE.

If you’re interested in getting in on the Helios Neo 16S AI you can grab one Best Buy or Amazon . If you do get one, hit us up and let us know how you feel about. Enjoy your games!
