It’s been awhile since I’ve done a review on a gaming laptop and it’s mostly because they’ve become super costly, but every now and then I’ll get an opportunity to review a laptop that I would recommend to anyone. I totally curate the products I look at and the Lenovo LOQ is one of those products that had me pleasantly surprised.

The LOQ 15AHP10 is not a fancy looking laptop well whatever you think fancy is, but I’m not one of those people that cares too much about design unless the layout is just awful and affects functionality, then I’ll speak on it. This laptop is simple in its look and that’s all it needs to be. Nobody is going to take this laptop out of the box and say the design is trash. It’s super clean I love the deep gray color, fairly thin form factor and sturdy feel.

SCREEN, PORTS and ALL THAT

The screen on this version of the Lenovo LOQ is if anything what someone would complain about because of this weird dislike for IPS displays within the community but again, this laptop is $1000 and for the money the screen is perfectly fine. It’s smooth at 144hz, yes, it could be better but it works well. The ONE thing with the screen that I didn’t like was the brightness. I would’ve liked the screen to be a bit brighter because in some games that I played that had a darker art palette I found that I had to turn the brightness up quite a bit. Minor complaint though.

All of the ports you need are on this machine if you want to use an external monitor, USB, etc. Of course in 2025 the ports you get will never be enough because we have so many gadgets but the basics are here.

SPECS

The Lenovo LOQ isn’t exactly a powerhouse but we knew that, however, it gets the job done how you need it to for the price point. The major cons to this configuration that I had is the RAM is limited to 16GB but you can buy an 32GB configuration, secondly this version I have has a relatively small SSD by today’s standards at just 512GB. You can of course configure it to be larger but if you want to do it yourself. Lenovo makes it very easy to swap out the SSD for a larger one. Overall for what you’re paying for, this machine is pretty solid. The general specs are below:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 250

Memory: 16GB DDR5-5600

Graphics/GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050

Display: 15.6-inch 1,920 x 1,080 IPS with 144Hz refresh rate, G-Sync

Networking: Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3

Weight: 5.29 pounds

IF YOU DON’T MIND 1080P GAMING, THIS LAPTOP IS FOR YOU

Gaming on this laptop is why we’re here reading this review and I’m going to keep it simple and say this, “If you don’t mind gaming in 1080p, this laptop is great”. 4K gaming as an experience for me personally is overrated. I mean, if YOU like it, I love it but this type of gaming is not only expensive to pull off but even if you can, it’s taxing on your hardware over time. I prefer framerates over resolution and this LOQ is what you need if you share this sentiment with me. Yes, I’m biased.

There was literally no game that I wasn’t able to play with relative ease on this Lenovo LOQ granted that I change the settings to1080p and some other personal graphical choices to make the experience smoother for me. Couple that also using Nvidia GeForce NOW and I had a great time playing all my games and yes, I had the occasional hiccup and crash but truthfully that’s just PC gaming, that comes with it sometimes.

I played Black Myth Wukong, Destiny 2, Elden Ring – Shadow of the Erdtree, Mafia: The Old Country, Metaphor: ReFantazio and so on. I pretty much played all of the most graphically intense games hardware wise available. If you’ve ever played these games before then you KNOW how intense these games are and one can imagine how you would have to curate your settings so specifically to get these games to work without crashing. I made a few changes that I personally like and I was good to go. Game on!

FINAL THOUGHTS

This is not meant to be a lengthy and complex review of the Lenovo LOQ but more of an endorsement of a really solid laptop. The Lenovo LOQ in my time with it has been surprising. I was pleasantly surprised. In my experience with “affordable” gaming laptops there is usually a hiccup with gaming and or some level they cheap out on the laptop itself and you kind of get the feeling that you get what you pay for in the worst way. Nope. This laptop is solid. Is it the best of the best of everything, no, and it’s not trying to be. Lenovo’s goal here was to give whoever picks up this laptop an opportunity to game on PC. It’s more popular than ever before but in a way that won’t cook your wallet after you buy it and leave you broke and recovering.

This version of the Lenovo LOQ is actually a great Xmas gift for the gamer in the family as well. I know in my family every youngster wants to get into PC gaming and I always try to explain that while PC gaming has the most to offer, it has an expensive entry point. This laptop alleviates that expense and it’s a great pickup in my opinion while genuinely being a quality gaming machine. Gaming laptops don’t always have to represent the best of the hardware available, they can represent the need for a gamer to get in to PC gaming that won’t leave them broke. This laptop does it. If you wanna grab one, head over to Walmart and now https://amzn.to/4qnVyLe and grab one.
