PowerA is no stranger when it comes to special edition themed controllers and controllers that actually perform or outperform OEM controllers. They are normally my controller brand of choice due to their amazing feature set and long-lasting durability. My favorite are their pro style controllers and they extend tech from it down to their more consumer friendly controllers, such as the new Borderlands 4 SE PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S. This is a standout piece of gaming hardware, with its impressive blend of style and substance. The design is a major highlight, featuring a design inspired by the upcoming Gearbox game, Borderlands 4, and complemented by subtle red accents.

DESIGN
The PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S is a Frankenstein of several of their controllers. Mainly, the bottom of the controller is similar to what’s on the Fusion line of controllers, while the face looks like it comes from their regular Advantage Plus lineup, but with an additional cutout for the headset dial.
The face features a smooth matte finish that feels great in your hands. The Borderlands-inspired design looks really nice and would be a nice collectors edition for any Borderland’s fan.
Moving the the rear, it’s primarily all black with many of the buttons accented red. The grips have this rubbery feel, but also have tiny PowerA logos etched into them. The same little PowerA logos are also found on the shoulder buttons and triggers.

EXPERIENCE
Beyond the aesthetics, the controller is packed with high-end features typically found in more expensive models. It boasts highly sought-after Hall Effect sticks and triggers, which use magnetic sensors to enhance precision and durability, a significant advantage over traditional controllers. The ergonomic design provides a comfortable, fatigue-free grip, with a rubbery texture and tiny etched PowerA logos.
Functionality is a strong point, with four programmable back buttons and 3-way trigger locks that allow for quick adjustments to trigger travel distance. The controller also includes dual rumble motors and magnetic impulse triggers for immersive feedback, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a profile button to switch between different settings. The battery life is robust, offering approximately 30 hours of playtime on a single charge. For those who want even more customization, the controller is compatible with the PowerA Gamer HQ app on PC, allowing for fine-tuning of dead zones, vibration settings, and more.
While the design is a major selling point, the professional-level features make this controller a fantastic choice for gamers looking for a high-quality, feature-rich controller without the premium price tag.

FINAL THOUGHTS
From my experiences with PowerA controllers, I’ve found them to be quite reliable and very functional. Not only that, they don’t cost an arm and a leg like some other “pro” controllers just for some extra programmable buttons. Hall Effect sticks and triggers are a must, and the inclusion of 4 programmable back buttons is a huge bonus! Not to mention the inclusion of the 3-way trigger locks and dual rumble motors. This has almost everything a gamer would want in a controller, and if you’re a Borderlands fan, the PowerA Wireless Controller for Xbox Series X|S – Borderlands 4 SE makes a great addition to your collection
