If you’re currently using or considering a Canon RF-mount APS-C camera but have lamented the lack of third-party autofocusing lenses your wait has paid off. Today, Sigma announced the release of four new DC DN Prime lenses for RF Mount cameras – the 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary, and 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary.

Why It Matters

As I mentioned when these lenses became available for the Nikon Z system, this opens up a world of possibilities for APS-C photographers – whether they’re content creators or just looking to capture amazing memories on their next vacation or family gathering. The Sigma Contemporary line continues to offer some of the best bang-for-your-buck lenses on any modern camera system. These four will join the other two APS-C zoom lenses in the Contemporary line, the 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN and 18-50 F2.8 DC DN Contemporary lenses.

Beyond converting existing lenses to Canon’s RF mount, this could signal the introduction of full-frame lenses for Canon’s RF mount. Personally, I’d love to see what the Sigma 28-105mm F2.8 Art lens can do when paired with Canon’s EOS R6 II or EOS R5 II. Either way, we’re ready to pair some Sigma glass on Canon’s RF-mount cameras.

Pricing & Availability

One of the reasons I’m a big fan of the Sigma line of APS-C lenses is because the value they offer without compromises in terms of build or image quality. I’ve used the 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN, and the 23mm F1.4 DC DN and owned the 30mm and 56mm for the Micro Four-Thirds system. Each time these were purchases made because they either fit a niche that OEMs couldn’t/wouldn’t or Sigma simply had the better lens in terms of features and price. That all being said, you can get the 30mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary for $369 and the 56mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary for $529 beginning on December 5, 2024. The 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary will retail for $489, and the 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary will retail for $599 and are expected for release in January 2025.
