While the US has a handful of phone manufacturers, internationally the possibilities are endless and even more affordable across numerous models. Infinix has a wide range of phones but one of their best is the ZERO series. With the Infinix ZERO 40 5G this phone looks to hold its own compared to other phones with similar specs and not being as expensive.

Style

There are three colors of the ZERO 40 5G with this one being called Violet Garden. This color looks like a lilac color which I think is stunning. It has a slight two-tone appearance when glancing at the sides and the back. While are starting to see some phones go back to flat square designs the ZERO 40 5G has a curved unibody. The phone weighs in at 195g, making it not a heavy device.

As far as button placement you get volume controls on the right with a power button underneath. On the bottom there is a DualSim tray and next to that a USB-C port. On the top is an Infrared sensor which is a rarity on smartphones. I reviewed the OnePlus 12r that surprisingly had one though. It does work fine, and I have used it with my TCL QM7 TV.

Included with the Infinix Zero 40 5G is a 45W Super Charge Adapter, USB-C Cable, Phone Case, and Tempered Glass Screen Protector.

Hardware

As far as power is concerned the ZERO 40 5G is utilizing a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate chipset alongside a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU. These components lead to efficient performance while using this Infinix phone. It also has storage / media configuration of 256GB / 12GB RAM or 512GB / 12GB RAM with this phone having the latter. All this is backed by a 5,00mAh battery that is capable of being fast charged at 45W or wirelessly charged via 20W. Interestingly the phone battery can handle charging in harsh weather conditions ranging from -20°C to 55°C ( -4°F to 131°F).

I did not have much of an issue gaming on this phone whether I played Fortnite or Call of Duty: Mobile. There was no lag, and the sound is great coming from the stereo speakers.

Display

For your viewing pleasure is a 6.7” 144Hz 3D Curved AMOLED Display. It’s coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 5(which is also on the back). It is all screen inch to inch with a 93.40% screen-to-body ratio. It also gives off an impressive 1300 nits meaning it can get bright. It gets nice details whether I’m watching one of my favorite movies Scott Pilgrim vs the World or one of my friends Booredatwork on YouTube. Fast moving content was no issue not providing any lag.

XOS is the OS

Navigating via the UI on the phone is not an issue. It looks welcoming and user friendly. There is a version of Android 14 running. Gestures are smooth and jumping from one app to the other didn’t seem to be an issue. The fingerprint sensor is great and responsive. There are cool additional features such as NemFusion. Allowing you to use some of your storage and apply it to your RAM. Also, you can do a Dynamic Bar which is essentially Apple’s Dynamic Island. Infinix has developed their own AI here called Folax.

A cool feature Infinix has baked in the OS is called Vlog. If you select more than one photo in your gallery (up to 20) a “vlog” button appears. You click on it and will generate a vlog style post letting you change the style if needed.

Cameras

Infinix has been calling this a “vlogger’s dream” as it packs so many features and options whether you are taking photos or shooting video including one called Vlog Mode. It is equipped with a Triple Camera system compromised of a whopping 108MP (main), 50MP(Ultrawide), and 2MP (depth) sensors. On the front is a 50MP selfie lens. Cameras shoot in 4K 30fps on both sides (4K 60fps can be done on back too) and you can do Dual Recording using both sides at the same time.

An important thing they have been advertising is GoPro. You can synchronize this with your GoPro instantly and use it as a viewfinder and adjust. If you have one test it out (I don’t unfortunately).

I found taking photos with the Zero 40 5G wasn’t bad. They came out clear but at times could be overexposed and looking too bright.

International Connections

There are two different versions of the ZERO 40 with this being the “5G” version. It supports a sizable number of signal bands but as far in the US that can vary. It does not have eSim so unfortunately, I’m unable to evaluate my T-Mobile service as both my lines are eSIM. I was able to pop in a Verizon sim though. In some areas I was able to get over 300+ Mbps which was great.

Verdict

Infinix’s Zero 40 5G is an impressive phone at its price point. It can hit the marks of those wanting to start out and create or just become a content consuming machine. It retails for about $400 overseas. If you can happen to score one at this price and even get it imported out any crazy fees check it out. Unless you are in a country already with this available.
