Turtle Beach is back – and their latest Stealth 700 Gen 3 in new fundamental ways. If you’ve been following the gaming audio scene, you know the Stealth series has always had a pretty good reputation for delivering top-tier audio and comfort, but this latest entry has a few tricks up its sleeve. I had the opportunity to take this headset for a spin, and it left me impressed, with just a few elements that’s pretty blatant for me when comparing to their latest Atlas Air gaming headset. The obvious standout is the dual wireless receivers that literally eliminates any additional headsets for gamers like me and I want to talk about it. Let’s dive in.

Turtle Beach is Premium in Nature

Unboxing the Stealth 700 Gen 3, the first thing that struck me was how premium it feels. Turtle Beach didn’t just slap a “Gen 3” on the old design and call it a day. No, this baby has been completely redesigned for 2024, and it shows in the aesthetics. It’s sleek, the build quality feels sturdy with some metal elements, and with the Cobalt Blue selection, it sings to me as it’s my favorite color combination. This headset molds to your head with some well-thought-out padding; I wore this headset for several long gaming sessions and for the most part I would forget I was wearing one. Turtle Beach continues to impress with their ProSpecs™ Glasses Relief System, I game with glasses so to not feel that extra tension is a major plus for me. However, this headset does get noticeably weighty after some time. Ear fatigue is present, and I wouldn’t be surprised if people would still find this bulky. I think Turtle Beach has made tremendous strides with Atlas Air, and I would like to see some of that design implemented into the Stealth series.

The biggest selling point of any gaming headset is, of course, the audio quality. I’m going to spoil Stealth 700 Gen 3 performance here—it’s awesome. Powered by 50mm Nanoclear™ drivers, the audio is crisp and clear, with the right balance of bass and treble to give you an immersive soundstage. I put it through its paces with a variety of games, from fast-paced shooters to more narrative-driven RPGs, and the results were consistently impressive.

Here’s what stood out to me:

  • Directional audio: If you’re a fan of shooters, you’ll appreciate the Superhuman Hearing™ mode. It amplifies subtle sounds, like enemy footsteps or the faint hum of an approaching vehicle. I tried this in Call of Duty, and it honestly gave me an edge.
  • Surround sound: The 3D spatial audio really helps bring games to life. Whether I was wandering through the dense forests in The Witcher 3 or battling hordes in Gears 5, it felt like the world was happening around me, not just through my headset.
  • Mic quality: The Gen 3 steps up with a TruSpeak™ flip-to-mute mic. It’s convenient—just flip it up to mute, and you’re golden. In terms of clarity, my teammates confirmed my voice came through clearly with little background noise, which is exactly what you want when coordinating those all-important in-game strategies.

The Future is Wireless

The wireless connectivity is seamless, whether you’re on PC, Xbox, or even mobile. With Bluetooth capabilities built in, you can connect to your console and phone simultaneously. Ever needed to take a call mid-game? No problem here. The Stealth 700 lets you switch between in-game audio and phone calls effortlessly. As I mentioned before, Turtle Beach’s new dual wireless feature, which allows for simultaneous Bluetooth and 2.4GHz wireless connections is a game-changing feature I was waiting for a company to implement. The Gen 3 provides 2 wireless receivers that can connect to 2 of your preferred machines. With the push of a button, you are able to swap between hardware with relative ease. I found that on occasion the switch would happen randomly – which could be disruptive, but tapping the button would switch back no problem. A firmware fix can resolve this, I’m sure.

Speak of firmware, you’ll be using the Turtle Beach Audio Hub app for all adjustments. It’s available for both PC and mobile, and it lets you adjust all sorts of audio settings, from bass boost to mic monitoring. The app also gives you control over the Superhuman Hearing™ mode and allows you to create custom audio profiles for different games or genres. It’s super intuitive and makes it easy to dial in exactly the sound you want. For example, I created a custom profile for RPGs with enhanced bass to really feel the depth of those sprawling, cinematic landscapes. Then, for competitive shooters, I cranked up the treble and activated Superhuman Hearing™ to catch every little sound in my environment. It’s that level of customization that really makes the Stealth 700 Gen 3 shine for audiophiles.

On the battery life front, Turtle Beach claims 80+ hours of playtime. And based on my testing, they’re not far off. I went multiple days without needing a recharge, which is a huge win if you’re someone who forgets to plug things in. Plus, the quick charge feature gives you 8 hours of juice with just a 15-minute charge—perfect for those times when you need to get back into action quickly.

REVIEW SCORE 8/10

The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 3 isn’t just an iterative upgrade. It’s a thoughtful redesign that takes everything that worked in previous models and cranks it up a notch. Especially with the dual receiver option. If you’re in the market for a gaming headset that delivers, while also giving you the flexibility of wireless connectivity and easy customization through a mobile app, then this is a no-brainer. It’s got a few quirks, sure, but they’re easily overshadowed by the positives.
