J.Lo has been teaming up with Dolby quite a bit as we got the “Love More in Dolby” campaign last month and this past week she simultaneously released her 9th album “This is Me… Now” which also has a musical film titled “This is Me… Now: A Love Story”. The movie itself first premiered at Dolby Theatre but we got a chance to see it a few days earlier here in NYC courtesy of them.
Plot
This is Me… Now: A Love Story can be looked at as a musical of sorts. It can be considered a romantic drama depending how you take it. None of the characters use real names but titles. The main character is called “The Artist”. We get a nice motorcylce ride that turns into a accident and essentially breaks her heart as her lover the Biker dies. We get to visually see this as it zooms into a factory of workers trying to mend this heart.

The Artist talks this over with her Therapist(Fat Joe) and then talks about some poor relationship choices she made and then eventually gets married. This goes into a marriage musical scene as we see her go thruough three different Husbands(Tony Bellissimo, Derek Hough, Trevor Jackson). While this is happening we get to meet her friends such as The Lover, The Idealist, The Realist, The Fighter, The Quiet One, and the Cynic(Mike). They discuss some of the poor choices she made and hopefully this is the one but of course it isnt. And while all this is happening we have the Zodiacal Council which has an interesting cast such as Neil deGrasse Tyson(Taurus), Jay Shetty(Aries), Jenifer Lewis(Gemini), Sofia Vergara(Cancer), Post Malone(Leo), Kim Petras(Virgo), Trevor Noah(Libra), Keke Palmer(Scorpio), Jane Fonda(Sagittarius), and Sadhguru(Pisces). Funny there is no Capricorn or Aquarius. The Council can’t believe she keeps going from relationship to relationship and make various zodiac suggestions and what she maybe best for her, not without joking on each other in the process.

Eventually her friends gather and do a intevention feeling she is a sex addict but states she isnt. Therapist suggest she go to a Love Addicts Anonymous meeting to help her sees things which does and breaks into another musical dance number. Later on this leads her to go on a self-love trip running into a younger version of herself.
Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision

I had got to experience this in one of Dolby’s actual theaters as well as at home via my home theater setup. Its heavenly stylized with each scene and rather eye popping to say the least. There isnt many dark scenes and even with those they pop with color. Everything from the background to even the outfits J.Lo wears are vibrant especially in Dolby Vision. As for Dolby Atmos you are able to hear every dance move and water splash. A great example of sound is a glasshouse scene. Things are getting smashed and you get to hear and feel every bit of glass break. This is all while seleted songs from her latest album are being played. You get her music at a very high detailed level.
Verdict
This Is Me… Now: A Love Story honestly feels like a long 65min music video. I mean it is expected as its directed by Dave Meyers who has directed hundreds of videos over the past couple decades. It is pretty nonstop with musical numbers and outlandish scenes which can make it more comedy drama musical if that makes sense. On the Dolby Atmos & Dolby Vision side its at least sounds great and the visuals are super colorful and stylized but can just look weird and over the top at times with the CGI used.
This Is Me… Now: A Love Story is available now on Amazon Prime Video.
