As we all are starting to get ready and prep for the launch of the new Xbox Series X and the Sony PlayStation 5, for some this could be a nervous time thinking about not only picking up the latest consoles and new games but also potentially picking up additional gear that will be compatible with these consoles like your gaming headsets. Well if you own a pair from ASTRO Gaming, you’ll have nothing to fear as ASTRO has now confirmed that many of their latest and older devices will be compatible with these upcoming consoles. So you can keep on rocking with your current favorite headset and don’t have to worry about that additional cost.

Releasing a statement today, ASTRO Gaming confirms compatibility with the following statement below, which TL:DR they will work for roughly the A10 to the A50 and for most will only need a firmware update and for some others potentially an additional piece which ASTRO will add a discount if purchased from them and you provide proof you own a pair. ASTRO is excited to announce that our entire line of gaming headsets are Future Proof featuring full compatibility with Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5*. This includes all current generation headsets and MixAmp products, as well as many previous generations. See below for more details to confirm how compatibility will be achieved.

Some products may require a firmware update, updates will be available globally via the ASTRO Command Center software on the respective launch dates of the Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles. Once updated, products will also retain full compatibility with the current generation Xbox One and PS4 console hardware.

Xbox Series X:

  • A10
    • Gen 1 – Supports game sound and voice chat via the 3.5mm port on the Xbox Controller.
  • A20
    • Gen 1 – Requires a firmware update which enables game sound and voice chat over USB.
    • Gen 2 – Requires an included USB transmitter to transmit game audio and voice chat.
  • A40 and A40 TR
    • Gen 1-4 – Supports game sound and voice chat via the 3.5mm port on the Xbox Controller.
  • MixAmp Pro TR
    • Gen 3 & Gen 4 – Requires a MixAmp firmware update which enables game sound and voice chat over USB.
  • A50 Wireless + Base Station
    • Gen 3 & Gen 4 – Requires headset and base station firmware updates which enable game sound and voice chat over USB.
  • Other MixAmps
    • M60 – Supports game sound and voice chat via the 3.5mm port on the Xbox Controller.
    • M80 – Supports game sound and voice chat via the 3.5mm port on the Xbox Controller.

For Spatial Audio, the ASTRO A50 and MixAmp Pro TR can utilize Dolby Atmos by installing the Dolby Access app on Xbox or PC (no purchase required) and Dolby Atmos is available as a separate purchase on all other ASTRO products. All ASTRO Xbox products can also utilize Windows Sonic for Spatial Audio.

PlayStation 5:

  • A10
    • Gen 1 – Supports game sound and voice chat via the 3.5mm port on the PS5 Controller.
  • A20
    • Gen 1 – Supports game sound and voice chat via USB. Requires HDMI Adapter for mixing.
    • Gen 2 – Requires an included USB transmitter to transmit game audio and voice chat.
  • A40 and A40 TR
    • Gen 1-4 – Supports game sound and voice chat via the 3.5mm port on the PS5 Controller.
  • MixAmp Pro TR
    • Gen 3 & Gen 4 – Supports game sound and voice chat via USB. Requires HDMI Adapter for mixing.
  • A50 Wireless + Base Station
    • Gen 3 & Gen 4 – Supports game sound and voice chat via USB. Requires HDMI Adapter for mixing.

For Surround Sound, the ASTRO A50 and MixAmp Pro TR can utilize Dolby Audio via the ASTRO hardware directly. The A10 and A40 headsets can receive PS5 3D Audio via the PS5 controller. *The ASTRO HDMI Adapter will be available via ASTRO websites and retailers globally in October for $39.99. It enables game sound + voice chat mixing and features lagless 4K HDMI video passthrough while adding a TosLink optical jack.
