Amazfit has been cranking out these fitness watches over the past couple of years and with each new year comes new models. One of the latest is the Amazfit Bip S which is an update to their affordable Bip smartwatch. While both watches may look very similar, Amazfit was able to upgrade it in many subtle ways that still keeps the watch affordable, light, and stylish. One of the Bip’s more acclaimed features you’ll be happy to note is present in the new Bip S and actually better than before.

Of course we are talking about the Bip’s acclaimed long lasting battery life. The original Bip was rated at around 30 days of battery between charges with normal use. The new Amazfit Bip S is rated at 40 days. This is in part thanks to a slightly larger 200mAh Li-Polymer battery. This is also because of the way the Bip S has been optimized. Note however that your actual results will be heavily based on how you use the Amazfit Bip S.

Another update the Bip S sees is the new transflective display. This is an always on display with low power consumption. It’s a 176×176 display with a 64 RGB color gamut. The backlighting is quite bright when needed and when it’s not, the screen is very easy to read in bright sunlight.

That wasn’t the only thing that got an upgrade either. The Amazfit Bip S also uses the new BioTracker PPG Bio-Tracking Optical Sensor developed by Huami Technology. According to the description, the high-precision sensing area is 3 times that of the previous generation, the LED luminous intensity is 7 times that of the previous generation, and the heart rate monitoring accuracy is improved to 98%. Not only that, it uses one-fifth the power of the previous generation of products. This is one of the reasons why the battery life is also so long with the Bip S.

You may have also noticed that while the Bip S does look like the Bip, it sports a new two-tone look that gives the Bip S a bit more oomph in the looks department. This new look also means new colors – carbon black, white rock, red orange, and warm pink. Another enhancement to the look is the new 316L stainless steel button. You’ll be happy to note that like the previous Bip, you’ll be able to replace the band if you choose to do so with any other standard 20mm band.

One big change over the old Bip seems to be the software. The onboard software seems much different and more in line with the rest of Amazfit’s fitness watch lineup. It now supports 10 sports modes (including swimming), Amazfit’s health assessment system (PAI), watch faces with widgets, and music control. There’s also basic smartwatch functions like call and text notifications, app notifications, alarm clock, timer, weather forecasts, and a compass. The user interface too seems a lot more modern than the previous Bip.

The update also means that the Amazfit Bip S now works with the Amazfit app and not its own solo app like the previous Bip. Like I’ve stated before with other Amazfit watches, the app itself is very good and guess what? If you’re on Android it finally can sync with Google Fit! Now all it needs is the ability to import data from other apps.

Amazfit Bip S

So based on all this, the Amazfit Bip S is a wonderful addition to the Amazfit family. It offers you a full featured fitness watch with incredible battery life and an affordable price that is well below others. Not only that, the Amazfit Bip S is priced at the same price as the old Bip so it’s well worth getting this if you had ever considering the older model. This watch is an improvement in every way from the older model and does everything you’d ever need a fitness watch to do without breaking the bank.
