Starting with ‘Deadpool’ in February to the ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ in December, almost every month in 2016 will have an action/adventure film. Nineteen years ago, that certainly wasn’t the case. Big budget action films were slated strictly for the summer movie months and easily one of the biggest films of 1996 was ‘Independence Day’. 
It set the bar for epic summer CGI action adventure films, as well as proved that up and comer Will Smith (Captain Steven Hiller) was not a one-hit wonder, he was a certifiable movie star. After twenty years, we may finally have the continuation of the story with ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’. While Mr. Smith’s presence seems to be missing, returning cast members include Jeff Goldblum (David Levinson), Bill Pullman (President Thomas J. Whitmore), Judd Hirsch (Julius Levinson), Brent Spiner (Dr. Brakish Okun) and Vivica A. Fox (Jasmine Dubrow-Hiller). New to the cast Maika Monroe (Patricia Whitmore) and Jessie Usher (Dylan Hiller) play their older counterparts from the previous film. Hunger Games, Liam Hemsworth (Jake Morrison) joins another epic franchise and Chinese super-model/actress Angelababy plays Chinese Fighter Pilot Rain.
