iLuv Aud 5 Speaker Dock Review

I’m all about spreading the music. Music helps me get everything done. I know, many people say that, but I mean it. Music helps me blog, helps me clean and overall just gets me into a great mood. There are times to listen to music through headphones and other times through speakers. I don’t like walking around the house with headphones on. I wear them on my commute to and from work. I think that’s enough.

As a result I am a fan of speaker docks. For the obvious reasons, that you can amplify the music from your phone. But not all speaker docks are the same. There a few qualities that I look for when making a speaker dock part of my gadget family.

I’ve heard great things about iLuv, so I was psyched to try out their iLuv Aud 5 speaker. Check out my experience with it.

Look and Design

There is a reason I was excited to try out this model is the design. It looks very nice and modern. The all black sleek with top that gets narrower at the base is pretty cool. On the top left, the Aud 5 has Power and Play/Pause buttons. On the top right, you have the volume and track control rockers. These buttons are hard press buttons, not soft touch buttons. Simple design, easy to use. The center of course has the lightning dock for your iPhone 5/5S. The back has the port for the adaptor and the 3.5mm jack for other devices to connect. Simple design, and that’s why I love it.

Setup

Great thing, there is really no setup. It’s mostly just plug-and-play. Connect your iLuv Aud 5, dock your iPhone and start playing. That’s my favorite type of setup.

Experience with the iLuv Aud 5

This is the important part. My main questions when it comes to audio products:

How’s the sound? Does it fill a room? Does it sound like the price amount you paid for?

I live in New York, so you may figure that my apartment isn’t huge, but it’s large enough. I want a speaker dock that allows me to listen to music across the room.

The iLuv Aud 5 does a great job at quality streaming. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of bass it has. It must be the four drivers it has. The sound is filling and deep. I didn’t hear a hissing noise or any distortion. I tried various songs with the iLuv Aud 5, but I like going to songs that I’ve been listening to for years because I can distinguish the differences a bit more.

I of course tried the Michael Jackson “Dangerous” album. That album offers a lot of variations, from bass heavy, to pop, to vocals. Besides the fact that I love that album, it was good listening to it on the iLuv Aud 5. The sound is bold and much louder than the speaker allows you to believe.

Unfortunately the iLuv Aud 5 doesn’t have Bluetooth capability That might be a deal breaker for some. I love wireless streaming, but it isn’t a deal breaker for me yet (although I’m getting more and more used to wireless). I guess iLuv was focused more on the charging your device feature, therefor ruling out the need for Bluetooth. They should provide the auxiliary cable, to entice those who own other devices besides an iPhone 5/5S/5C.

Do “iLuv” the Aud 5 Speaker Dock?

There are many things to like about this iPhone 5 dock. It’s small, lightweight and portable. It can go in any room of the house without disrupting the decor or looking out-of-place. The price point of $119 – $140 isn’t too steep for the filling sound the dock offers. It’s great for iPhone friendly houses. Other can use the dock once they purchase an auxiliary cable, which isn’t that much. The iLuv Aud 5 Speaker dock works with the Apple iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPod Touch 7th Generation.
