If you are just entering the world of Micro Four Thirds cameras, you’re going to want to pick up a few extra lenses to go along with that 14-42mm kit lens your camera came with. Whether you’re using an Olympus PEN or a Panasonic Lumix M4/3 camera, Olympus has quite a few M.Zuiko Digital lenses available for you to choose from. In fact, I’d probably guess that the Micro Four Thirds standard has the most number of available lenses to date of any of the mirrorless interchangeable lens system cameras out there. Not only are there lenses made by Olympus, but Panasonic also makes their own Lumix branded M4/3 lenses with Leica glass, but that’ll be another post. For now, these are the available lenses you can choose coming from Olympus’s M.Zuiko Digital line.

I know it can be difficult choosing which extra lenses to buy and add to your collection as many of them seem to overlap each other in focal lengths. For me, I always try to get the most possible range with the least amount of lenses. That’s just me though. However, you’re going to want to also pick up a very fast lens for low-light situations as well regardless of whether or not it overlaps with another.

Which lenses would I suggest? Well, in most cases, you’re already going to have a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens that came with your camera, whether it’s an Olympus PEN or Panasonic Lumix. Going through the list, I’d pick up the M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 because of it’s speed and it’s good for portraits.  For landscape photography or if you want something to take photos of the sites you’re visiting, I’d suggest picking up a wide angle lens 12mm f/2.0 or the 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 if you need super wide angle. To round out the list, you’ll probably want to pick up a zoom lens for those times where you just can’t get close enough. I’d go straight for the 75-300mm f/4.8-6.7 lens.

Lens obviously range in price so you’ll want to buy what you can afford. It’s ok if you can’t get all the lenses at one time as no one ever really does that.
