If you’ve been following our coverage on G Style Magazine and across our YouTube channel, you know we test an incredible amount of tech every single month. Flagship smartphones, smart home setups, wearables, robotic mowers—gear is constantly rotating across our test bench.
Typically, the routine is familiar: we test a device for two to three weeks, publish a hands-on review, and move on to the next piece of tech.
But that got me thinking: what about the gear that stays? What are the products that survive past the review window, get embedded in our daily routines, and become permanent staples we simply can’t live without?
That question is the foundation of our brand-new YouTube series: The Essentials.
What Is ‘The Essentials’?
The Essentials isn’t your typical spec-sheet review series. Instead, each episode focuses on a single product, telling the real-world story of how I discovered it, what it does, and why it earned a permanent spot in my everyday carry or daily routine.
Whether it’s high-tech hardware or a simple everyday accessory, if it’s something I refuse to leave the house without, it belongs in The Essentials.
Episode 1: The Mystery Box That Became a Daily Staple
To kick off our debut episode, we’re starting with something that isn’t a smart gadget with a microchip, but touches almost every piece of glass and screen tech I own: WHOOSH!
The story started with an unexpected mystery box that simply had the word “WHOOSH” printed on the side. With no heads-up ahead of time, it sat on an office shelf for weeks until a cleaning day prompted me to finally slice the tape open.
Inside was a bottle of their alcohol- and ammonia-free Screen Shine solution and an unmissable, bright orange microfiber cloth. One test on a smudge-covered Pixel Fold and a quick pass across my everyday eyeglasses was all it took. The dry cloth buffs out stubborn grease effortlessly, and pairing it with a light mist of the solution brings displays and lenses back to pristine, edge-to-edge clarity with zero streaks.
Today, WHOOSH! kits live on my office desk, in the center console of the car, inside my travel backpack, and even down in Georgia with my daughter at college. It became such a reliable part of our everyday life that it rightfully earned the premiere slot of this new series.
