Shooting wide is a new infatuation with me. I’ve long loved the 35mm – 50 mm focal length for most of my photography, but there are several times when opening things up can help you create spectacular images. Using a wider field of view presents a few challenges, but the rewards can be worth it. With the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 Contemporary Lens, Fujifilm photographers/videographers can go ultra-wide with great results. Here’s what I learned from using this lens as my daily driver.

Design & Ergonomics
Right off the bat, you’ll notice that the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 Contemporary lens is tiny for what it is. A 15-27mm full-frame equivalent lens is small enough to be stowed into a jacket pocket without a second thought. That makes carrying around this F2.8 lens a no-brainer, whether you’re talking about in your everyday carry bag or for travel. Thanks to Sigma’s weather-resistant construction, this lens can take a good deal of abuse and hold its own in the elements. The all-metal construction is also a familiar touch, complete with the rubber zoom and focus rings.

While I’m not complaining about these features, I still would love to see some changes in the lens’ design – namely, the option to use the focus ring.
Living with only the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 Contemporary Lens.
When we first covered the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8, I mentioned that I’ve recently got into more wide-angle photography. While testing the Fujifilm X-S20 over the summer, I had a lot of fun pairing it with the Fujifilm XF8mm F3.5 R WR, and this Sigma lens offers a lot of the same joy when making photographs or simply capturing snapshots. The Sigma 10-18 F2.8 contemporary lens offers an interesting perspective for photographers looking to experiment with wider viewing angles and perspectives.

In my time using the Sigma 10-18mm F 2.8 I find myself often looking for new angles in which to shoot the same boring photographs. ultimately I think that’s what makes this lens particularly useful and something that I enjoy using though other lenses could spark that same joy in other photographers for me as a street photographer I do enjoy going back to the same places over and over again and having that wider field of view helps me to create something that is equally pleasing but at the same time allowing me to have a different perspective. This is ultimately why the Sigma 10-18mm is one of those lenses that I absolutely can’t recommend enough. Is it perfect? Although the Sigma does have some weather sealing, it is not fully sealed at the front, leaving the lens elements susceptible to wear and tear over extreme use.

Final thoughts
I’ve spent a considerable amount of time using this lens, and for the most part, it has lived on my camera during the entirety of our review period. I found myself reaching for this lens and my X-Pro 3 for just about anything that I could find to shoot. Whether it was to shoot a gathering and events or just walking around the street with a camera in my hand I found that the combination of the Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 And my X-Pro 3 not only met the immediate immediate needs of whatever I was shooting that day but it allowed me to rethink my photography process; thinking of new ways to see the world. The wider field of view makes you think about everything that’s around you, think about everything that fills the frame.
