3X GRAMMY® winning, multi-Platinum singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo has been revealed as the artist who will appear on the second to last custom MetroCard ever printed, as the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) moves to a contactless fare payment system. 50,000 commemorative MetroCards featuring Olivia wearing the newly released Sony LinkBuds Fit in her signature violet colorway are available for purchase starting Monday, October 28.
Earlier this month, Sony Electronics announced two new versions of the wireless earbuds as part of their LinkBuds series: LinkBuds Fit and LinkBuds Open, with a version custom-designed in collaboration with Olivia. The MTA collaboration accompanies Sony’s dynamic new creative campaign featuring the pop artist (watch here). The spot, directed by critically acclaimed visionary Andrew Thomas Huang and shot at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn, shows Olivia on an adventurous commute repping her Sony LinkBuds Fit. Sony worked with the MTA’s advertising partner, OUTFRONT, to place the campaign across subway stations, subway train cars, and buses throughout NYC.
“To be on one of the last-ever custom MetroCards is super cool. I had so much fun shooting my Sony campaign on the New York City subway. I can’t wait to see my fans wearing these Sony LinkBuds designed in my favorite violet color,” said Olivia Rodrigo.
Last year, Sony collaborated with Olivia on the LinkBuds S x Olivia Rodrigo model. All of her headphone models have been designed with the superstar’s fans in mind, including custom EQ settings selected by Olivia and her producer Dan Nigro to deliver an optimal listening experience specifically for her first two albums.
Olivia’s signature edition of Sony LinkBuds Fit is available for pre-sale now, and on sale Monday, October 28. Fans can get their hands on the limited-edition cards from select vending machines at the following stations:
