GUNNAR Optiks has been cranking out a whole slew of limited edition glasses in conjunction with other IPs, and one of their latest was the Tokidoki x GUNNAR Optiks – Year of the Dragon Limited Edition glasses. These limited edition glasses were in celebration of the lunar new year to embody the spirit of the Chinese dragon as a supernatural being unparalleled in excellence. The glasses feature a uniquely modified cat eye frame, handmade acetate temples, flexible spring hinges, adjustable nose pads, and GUNNAR’s legendary G-Shield Premium lens.

The Tokidoki x GUNNAR glasses have a rather interesting shape that isn’t going to appeal to everyone. You really have to love the shape to want to wear these. However, there’s no denying the quality of the build and the materials used.

These are optical quality frames meaning there is a rim lock for the lens, spring hinges, and adjustable nose pieces. I should not the nose pads are pretty cool looking being made of metal in a really stunning shade of gold which also matches the rim of the frame. The temples are made of acetate with integrated Tokidoki metal logos.

In terms of color, the combination of onyx and gold is quite striking, especially with the amber GUNNAR G-Shield Premium lenses. Overall, a really good looking frame.

Since this is a limited edition set by Tokidoki and GUNNAR, we also get a special microfiber pouch with an exclusive year of the dragon design, a microfiber cleaning cloth with another exclusive design, and lastly, an eye catching red color case that looks like a it’s made out of dragon scales.

In terms of the lens technology, the amber lenses I think work better Than the clear ones, though that’s up to personal preference. Amber to me just makes the whites on a computer monitor less harsh so they don’t hurt my eyes as much.

While the Tokidoki x GUNNAR Optiks – Year of the Dragon Limited Edition glasses might not be my style, there’s no denying that this is a collaboration done right. Those who are into Tokidoki gear will probably love these and the quality that GUNNAR brings to the table is evident.
