Connecting a laptop, tablet, smartphone, or portable gaming machine to an external display requires some type of cable connection. You could use a hub or dongle that lets you connect an HDMI cable to it allowing you to display to an external monitor. But, a simpler solution would be to just use an all-in-one cable such as the HyperDrive USB-C to HDMI 4K60Hz Cable.

The HyperDrive USB-C to HDMI cable is a universal cable that doesn’t need an adaptor. The UDB-C connector means it can connect to a wide range of laptops, tablets, phones, and portable gaming machines, such as a Steam Deck. The only requirement is that the device needs a USB-C port that supports DP Alt Mode.

I like the fact that this is a one-cable solution. The build is also very good featuring a durable braided cable and connectors that seem solidly put together. I tried the cable with my MacBook Air, iPad Air 5, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. The connection was perfect with great color reproduction and despite being only 60Hz, the picture looks pretty smooth. I also love that this is an 8ft cable which makes it very versatile when connecting it to different monitors or televisions.

So with that said, the HyperDrive USB-C to HDMI 4K60Hz Cable is a terrific all-in-one solution for those who want to output to a second display. It’s also not that expensive at only $30.
