If you own any of the current Macbooks from Apple, you know what it’s like to live with only USB-C ports. I’m currently using a Macbook Air as my work computer and it only has two USB-C ports. That means one of them is usually occupied by the charging cable and the other gets used by either the Mac Keyboard or Magic Mouse when charging. That doesn’t leave room for anything else. With the EZQuest USB-C Dual HDMI Multimedia Hub Adapter, however, you get 5 ports with PD 3.0, which includes 2xUSB 3.0 ports, 2xHDMI ports, and 1xUSB-C port.

DESIGN & SPECS

The EZQuest Dual HDMI Multimedia Hub Adapter is a slim hub adapter that attaches directly to your Macbook if it has 2xUSB-C ports. This includes both Intel and newer M1/M2-based Macbooks. I’m currently testing this with a Macbook Air 2020 Edition with the M1 chip. The hub fits snugly against the Macbook and once it’s on, it feels pretty secure. I like this over the other hubs that have cable extenders on them because it just looks more integrated when you have this one on.

With the Macbook Air, the hub also sits pretty flat with the table when inserted so there won’t be any wobble when you push down on it. This also helps protect from any accidental damage to the USB-C ports.

In terms of finish, the silver color on the aluminum body matches up well with the silver Macbook Air but isn’t quite exactly the same color as what I’m using. It looks a tiny bit lighter but it’s hard to tell unless you examine it closely. Other than that. the EZQuest Dual HDMI Multimedia Hub Adapter is very well made, feels very solid, and very lightweight.

For the specs, starting with the USB-C port, this includes PD 3.0 with pass-thru charging up to 100 watts. You would basically plug your charging cable here which will also help power up the other ports. The two USB-A ports are 5Gbs 3.0 ports with BC 1.2 capacity. Lastly, the two HDMI ports are both support HDMI 4K, though one is at 70Hz while the other is at 30Hz. Sadly, with the Macbook Air M1 (2020), there is a limitation of only being able to use one of the HDMI ports for use on an external display. That means having two HDMI ports on this hub is useless for those using Apple M1 chipped Macbooks.

EXPERIENCE

For the most part, the EZQuest Dual HDMI Multimedia Hub Adapter will be perfect for most Macbook users. The only limitation is because of Apple’s M1 chip and not really the fault of EZQuest. If you run an M1 Macbook, you’re probably better off not getting this, though it is still perfectly usable, you’re just missing out on being able to use the second HDMI port. You can however use either of these ports to accommodate one external display.

If however, you can make use of the dual HDMI ports, then this hub is perfect. It’s slim, fits well within the look of the MacBooks, and provides just enough ports for most people. The two USB ports will be enough if you need to use a thumb drive or possibly another accessory. You however won’t be able to charge your Macbook and use another USB-C cable at the same time. You’re also missing some other ports that would come in handy such as SD card slots and an Ethernet port.

Aside from that, it’s a fairly good hub for most of your needs.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The EZQuest Dual HDMI Multimedia Hub Adapter is another one of EZQuests long list of hubs. Like most hubs you find, this one isn’t quite a one hub fits all thing and instead has a pretty specific function, mainly to provide dual HDMI externals monitor capabilities for those that can make use of it. Even if you can’t, it’s still a decent hub if you want to make use of one external display and need two regular USB-A ports. However, there are better hubs you can pick up if you need more features and those are also available from EZQuest.
