Fujifilm fans rejoice! Today, Sigma announced a new Contemporary Lens for Fuji X-mount cameras – the new 15-50mm F2.8 DC DN. The new lens joins the three previously released X-mount fast primes: the 16mm F1.4, 30mm F1.4, and 56mm F1.4 DC DN Contemporary lenses giving photographers a fast standard Zoom lens. Here’s how this lens stacks up.

What to Watch For
On top of its compact size – weighing only 258g, Sigma’s latest X-mount lens brings a standard zoom lens (27mm-75mm full frame equivalent) with a consistent F2.8 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range. Additionally, the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN takes full advantage of the communication pins on the camera – using Sigma’s AF algorithm to allow the lens to achieve high-speed autofocusing speeds and support your camera’s Continuous AF mode. Rounding out the key features is the rubberized mount giving this lens protection from dust and the elements.
Why It Matters
The obvious benefit here is choice. With more lens options available to Fujifilm shooters, we can expect the quality and price points for new lenses to improve; and bring new creative perspectives onto the system. As someone that could never pull the trigger on Fujifilm’s XF 16-55mm F2.8 WR in part because of its $1200 price tag, as third-party lens options grow, you can expect that the pricing becomes more competitive – and that’s great for all photographers.
Price and Availability
The Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary lens is expected for a December release and is expected to retail for $549 – a steal for this quality lens! You can learn more and pre-order on Sigma’s site.
