There are many hands-free accessories for your tablet or smartphone, but not many are as versatile and flexible as the TwelveSouth HoverBar Duo. Made for the Apple iPad, though can be used with other tablets and smartphones, the HoverBar Duo is a height-adjustable, multi-position, weighted stand that can either be placed on your table or used in conjunction with a desk clamp for more mounting positions. This makes it much different from other stands that aren’t as adjustable.
The TwelveSouth HoverBar Duo is made of a mixture of both plastic and metal. Both of which are finished off in matte black which makes it very difficult to see which pieces are plastic and which are metal. They blend well together and gives the HoverBar Duo a uniform look. The HoverBar Duo also is uniquely designed among stands and does resemble that of a swing arm desk lamp. In fact, it’s similarly hinged and if you replace the headpiece where it holds the iPad with a light instead, it could very well be a lamp.
That’s not a bad thing at all because this design allows you to position the iPad or any tablet in almost any position you can think of. You can swing the arm straight up if you need your iPad to be higher, or fold it in the middle to bring it close to your table. You can also angle your iPad in any desired angle you can think of. The hinges too are designed in such a way where they actually lock into place where you put them without the need to tighten them. Tough if they ever do become loose, you can re-tighten with a hex key.
If you’re using the weighted base, you’ll be happy to hear that it is fairly heavy and will not tip over from the weight of your tablet. If you’re using the desk clamp, it’s even more secure, but you’ll only use that if you don’t plan on moving the HoverBar Duo. If you plan on transporting this, you can fold it relatively flat.
Overall, the HoverBar Duo is the best tablet stand I’ve ever used and the most versatile. I love the fact that there are two different mounting options and an infinite number of viewing positions and angles. This is honestly the only tablet stand you’ll ever need. Period.
