If you weren’t thinking about maybe selling your 2080ti because you still think it mattered, well, Nvidia just let you know today that it doesn’t. Of course, we’re just kidding, but Nvidia is putting the older 20 series RTX GPU owners into a bind with the release of the new RTX 3070ti and 3080ti series GPU’s announced yesterday.
As if the 30-series cards weren’t enough of a reminder that it might be time to upgrade, the Ti series is practically screaming at you to upgrade. There’s a lot of gaming power in these new GPU’s. It’s impressive how much power Nvidia packs into their premiere GPU’s and it’s no wonder why they remain the best in the business when it comes to having a GPU in your rig.
The 3080ti in particular boasts some impressive specs. Just to give you an example of how powerful this new GPU is. The 3080ti has 12GB of GDDR6X video memory, it has 50% more of an improvement in gaming at 4k resolution over the 2080ti, it’s 2x times faster in rasterization and ray tracing will be much less of a hindrance or as taxing on the GPU as it was/is previously. Just to give you an idea of what kind of power we’re talking about with the 3080ti. Only the RTX 3090 outdoes it and that’s just barely outdoes it.

All of this power unfortunately, is NOT CHEAP. The current crop of RTX 3080 video cards are $699. The 3080ti? A whopping $1199. That’s almost double. Yikes. To be fair though, this card isn’t for everybody and isn’t really necessary anymore than the 2080ti was, In my opinion of course. The 3080ti is for the gamers that absolutely must play every game they can in 4k with the highest settings. If you like to game this way, then this is the GPU for you.
We’ll of course keep you updated if we can get our hands on one and be able to game with it and put it through its paces. Make no mistake, It’s an exciting time for gamers and it begs the question what does AMD have in store to combat the mighty 3080ti? We’ll see, but Nvidia just upped the ante.
