I have covered a couple RedMagic gaming phones here at G Style in the past and for the most part, I found them to be very good smartphones for gaming. Mainly what surprises me about them are their high end specs at a really affordable price that far undercuts most flagships these days. However, their aggressive styling may be a bit off-putting to some but I think the new RedMagic 6R just might hit a sweet spot for those wanting incredible performance with a look that is a bit more mainstream.
The RedMagic 6R comes with a brand new design that is both thin and light. The RedMagic 6R features a 6.67” FHD+ AMOLED display with slim bezels on the sides and an integrated fingerprint sensor. On the rear, it packs a powerful quad-camera module and it has a metal middle frame and plastic back. The RedMagic logo sits towards the bottom on the back.
The RedMAgic 6R also comes packed with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 and super-fast LPDDR5 and UFS3.1. The CPU part uses the latest Kryo 685 architecture and adds a new Cortex-X1 super large core and can clock up to 2.84GHz, increasing the CPU performance by 25%. The GPU is an Adreno 660 which improves performance by 25%.

Like the other RedMagic 6 series phones, the RedMagic 6R also supports 144Hz refresh rate and a 360Hz touch sampling rate. Adaptive refresh means better battery performance when a super high refresh rate isn’t needed. The 6.67” FHD+ AMOLED display also has a screen ratio of 20:9 and a resolution of 2400*1080. The RedMagic 6R also includes shoulder triggers, RedMagic OS 4.0, Game Spaces, and more.
RedMagic does make the RedMagic 6R a bit more daily use friendly with the addition of a quad-camera setup in the rear and a 16MP camera on the front. There’s also a large 4200mAh battery with 30W fast charging.
Currently the RedMagic 6R will only be available in China starting in June, but a Global version will be announced soon after.
