There are three books that are often referenced when inspiring a Batman feature film, Detective Comics #33, Frank Miller’s “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s “Batman: The Killing Joke”. Detective Comics #33 (November 1939), is the very first time Batman’s origin story is explored. Tim Burton, director of “Batman (1989)” has mentioned the influence Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns and The Killing Joke influenced his film adaptation. They’ve been talks for many years of adapting this highly influential book. Concerns ranged from should it be a live action? or animated feature? It’s dark tone and not kid-friendly graphic content prohibited from getting made, until now.. Executive producer Bruce Timm, who is probably more known for his work on “Batman: The Animated Series” returns with his voice crew to reprise the roles they made famous. In a recent interview, Timm told comicbook.com, “the source material is really not long enough to make an entire feature film out of, so we actually had to add a lot more story to it.”
Geeks Facts:
Kevin Conroy, has been voicing Bruce Wayne/Batman starting with “Batman: The Animated Series (1992)” to as recent as last year’s “Batman: Arkham Knight” Video Game.
Tara Strong, has been involved in over 300 individual voice projects. From animated series to video games, its safe to say you’ve heard her voice in something.
The character “Harley Quinn”, was crated by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini.
Mark Hamill’s voice work as the Joker is only his second famous role of his career, first is of course Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

The animated feature will be released digitally on July 23, 2016, and via DVD and Blu-ray on August 2, 2016.
