SmartHub2

Back in January SmartThings announced that version two of it Smart Hub would be coming in Q2 of this year. Though it has had some delays, it looks like now version two of this hardware will be arriving come this September. Earlier this week emails went out to current owners of version one letting them know that the new generation of the SmartThings Hub would be available in early September and that it’s now available for pre-order in the SmartThings Shop.

SmartHub2-2 SmartThings also let current owners pre-order a Customer Appreciation Bundle that included the V2 Hub, along with a Motion sensor and an Open/Close Sensor. SmartThings let users get these sensor for free with a special promo code. The new Smart Hub will close the same as the current version, and this price is $99.00. This bundle is already sold out, but you can still pre-order the new Hub in the Shop.

The new SmartThings Hub includes a more powerful processor, a local app engine, and built-in backup battery power. This will enable SmartThings to continue operating in the event of a power or Internet outage. I’m a big fan of SmartThings and heavy user of the Hub, you can check out some of my thoughts on it in our “Building a Smart Home Series”. The key to good home automation, is a good centralized point. You could do well checking out SmartThings and their hub. Check out www.smartthings.com
