Notica by Cleversome is a new note taking app that differentiates itself from the default notes app in iOS by adding something the default app doesn’t have; the ability to add images to each of your notes and being able to organize your notes into stacks. With Notica, it makes it much easier to remember the things you need to remember because you can now remember them visually images, text and even the location. Think of Notica as a mashup of the default camera app and notes app and you’ve got a good idea of what the app is all about.

The first thing you’ll notice about Notica is how beautiful the user interface is. Unlike other note taking apps, this one doesn’t look like a notepad or a generic piece of paper. Notica instead looks like a stack of playing cards. Each note you take is featured on its own card that you can place into different stacks like categories. This allows you to organize your notes more efficiently making it easier to find information when you need to. Once in a stack, it displays all your notes in a list form with the image and a couple lines of text from your notes. You then would click on the note you want to view and it will be displayed as a card. Each card features an image or video, the date and time, location, and your text notes. From here, you can swipe left or right to view other cards in the stack.

Notica also allows for full text searches of all your notes so that’s quite useful especially if you have a lot of notes made and an email function which allows you to email your notes to yourself or others which is quite useful especially for work related projects where you are working with a team of people.

Notica is a great note taking app as sometimes you just can’t get the details you want with just plain text notes. Images usually convey more then just text. Notica however is not perfect as there are a few short-comings in the app that I would like to see addressed in future updates. For starters, images that you add to your notes with the camera are not saved in the default Photos app. They are only saved to Notica. You also can not zoom in on a photo in Notica so if you want to view details in a photo, you can’t. The only work around for this would be to to just use the regular Camera app first to take the image, have it save to the default Photo app, and then pull that from Notica to use. That way you have a hi-res version of the photo in your Photo app. I’d like to see them improve this a bit.

Other than that, Notica is a very useful app that is much better than Apple’s default Notes app. In fact, I’ve completely replaced the Notes app in favor of Notica as my go to notes taking app.

Notica is available now in the App Store for $2.99. It only works with iPhone and iPod Touch 4th gen with iOS 4.0 or greater.
