We’ve been following the development and growth of Sigma’s I-Series, Contemporary line lenses for a while now – offering a great entry point for Sony E-Mount and L-Mount users. The I-Series line of Contemporary badged lenses offers photographers/videographers all-metal constructed lenses with dust/splash resistance, fast apertures, and low price points – making them a high-value proposition. Now, with the introduction of two full-frame options – the Sigma 17mm F4 DGDN Contemporary and 50mm F2 DGDN Contemporary – and an APS-C option – the Sigma 23mm F1.4 DCDN Contemporary, Sigma’s family of I-Series lenses continues to grow.

Built for Mirrorless Systems – No AF Compromises

Whether you’re in need of an ultra-wide lens like the 17mm F4 DG DN or need a sleek, compact 50mm as an everyday carry lens, Sigma’s new lenses will fit most photographers’ needs. The new I-Series lenses offer the same compact and lightweight design that we’ve come to expect from the Contemporary line, while the 23mm F1.4 DC DN is purpose-built for ASP-C sensors – all affording photographers and videographers with fast primes that are easy on the budge. This latest expansion of the Contemporary line will ultimately mean that there will be a lens to fit any style of photography/videography without compromising on features like weather resistance or hampering your camera system’s autofocusing capabilities.
Last Thoughts & Availability

At first brush, Sigma’s announcement of the three lenses puts them in direct competition with OEM lens makers with similar focal length options. However, I’ve often stressed that competition is always good for photographers, and having options helps their pocket and experiment and expand their artistic style.

The Sigma 17mm F4 DG DN Contemporary and 50mm F2 DG DN Contemporary will be available in both Sony FE mount and L mount variants for $599 and $639 respectively beginning in late April 2023.
