ZTE had an event last night at the Glass Houses in downtown Manhattan to show off its new phablet of a smartphone called the ZTE ZMAX. As I have seen with ZTE they have usually had smaller devices and this the first I recall of them having at such a huge size. The two biggest things literally going for the ZTE ZMAX is its huge size which has a 5.7″ 720p LCD display and its price point of $252. Of course ZTE linked up with one of the most inexpensive carriers T-Mobile and you can get the ZTE ZMAX for $0 Down and $10.50/month over a 24 month period.

ZTE ZMAX specifications:

  •  Battery: 3400 mAh
  •  Dimensions: 6.4” x 3.3” x 0.35”, 6.7 oz.
  •  Display: 5.7″ TFT LCD HD 1280 x 720
  •  Memory: 16GB ROM, expandable to 32GB via micro SD
  •  Network Compatibility: LTE, GSM
  •  Operating System: Android KitKat 4.4
  •  Processor: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 400 Quad Core with Adreno 305 GPU at 1.2 GHz
  •  Camera: 8MP rear, 1.6MP front, 1080p video

While checking out the ZTE ZMAX, you can see its a rather huge device and its pushing tablet territory. Even though the screen is 5.7″, the body of the ZMAX is pushing 6.4″. If you look sizing it up with other smartphones such as the HTC One M8, OnePlus One and LG G3 you can see how it trumps them in size whether it length or width.

Navigating through the menus and even hopping on the web via WiFI turned out to be snappy as their OS is pretty close to stock android besides some features in their camera section which they typically have. I could see the ZMAX used for those that don’t want to pay for the latest and greatest device but still wants to be able to enjoy everything as far as mobility is concerned. Its massive 3400mAh battery was stated to give about 2 days of services with normal usage.

The ZTE ZMAX will be available on September 24th on T-Mobile and later this year through MetroPCS.
