Apple Officially Buys Beats By Dre for $3 Billion

Beats and Apple The rumors have finally been confirmed and Apple is acquiring the Beats By Dre properties Beats Electronics for $2.6 billion and Beats Music for $400 million to total out a $3 billion buyout. Talks of this has been around about three weeks ago when news hit and then Dr.Dre and Tyrese put up a video celebrating(which was later taken down). The $3 billion acquisition marks the highest price Apple has ever paid to buy a company in its history. This will also mark the 2nd time Beats By Dre will be under another company as it originally came from being with Monster Products and then years later broke off and went on its own. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook says ““Music is such an important part of all of our lives and holds a special place within our hearts at Apple,” “That’s why we have kept investing in music and are bringing together these extraordinary teams so we can continue to create the most innovative music products and services in the world.” Of course referring to its iPod branding they had developed back in the early 2000s and was most likely the saving grace and put Apple where it is today of course with the iPhone. Beats Co-Founder Jimmy Iovine stated ““I’ve always known in my heart that Beats belonged with Apple,”. Now we haven’t got the full terms of the deal as to what will come about this merger and what it was realistically done. We know Apple has been trying to get into the streaming music game for a while and its iTunes Radio has never really hit the spot. While Beats Music is fairly new in its own right, Apple could help to market and mold the streaming service into something they couldn’t fulfill with their own program.

Apple and Beats are two of the biggest marketing giants in the world, not even just the U.S. People will buy their products no matter if there is better competition out there. You can ask the masses and they will tell you that haven’t even attempted to check out what’s out there. I see those good old Apple iPod commercials revamped with iPhones and Beats Headphones attached to them.

What do you think will come of this merger and do you think its good or bad for business?
