It felt like it was just yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy Gear had just been released. Realistically its only been about five months since it debuted alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 at Unpacked Episode 2. First thing you will notice with this latest addition to the Gear line is the word “Galaxy” is absent.
From the looks of it, the Gear model has been redesigned from the ground up with a similar and easier build. The camera is now on top of the watch face itself on the Gear 2, the watch bands are interchangeable, has a infrared sensor and even a built in music player if you don’t want to carry your smartphone around you. The biggest kicker is that Samsung looks to be finally pushing their own created operating system which we seen various times called Tizen. With the Tizen OS, these new line of Gear watches are supposed to be compatible with more then a dozen Samsung Galaxy Smartwatches when it hits stores in April 2014. What this doesn’t state is if they have to be running a particular Android OS or not maybe that wont be deemed necessary. No pricing has been given as of yet either.
