So during the NBA Finals of the Miami Heat and San Antoino Spurs that everyone was watching (unless you’re a True Blood fan or WWE fan) you might have caught this three minute commercial of a collaboration with Jay-Z and Samsung. It has been teased for the past few days and we were wondering when and how it would come to fruition.
We come to find out that Jay Z has inked a deal with Samsung to have his new forthcoming album “Magna Carta Holy Grail” released exclusively on a customized app by Samsung. The application can only be downloaded apparently by Samsung Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note II owners on June 24th. The 1st million users get the full album for free on July 4th which is three days before the official release.

There looks to be some crazy production on this album with Rick Rubin, Timbaland, Pharrell Williams and Swizz Beatz in the three minute commercial. And I can imagine his concert mashup with Justin Timberlake this summer to be even greater if new tracks are performed from the album during that time.
With Samsung buying over 1 million copies at $5 a pop, Jay-Z has already pocketed a unprecedented $5,000,000 in sales without even having a single track leaked. There has some praise and some backlash in regards to this.
But this isn’t the first time Jay-Z has done this. Anyone remember the Nokia 3300 Music Phone back in 2003? At the time when he was proclaiming retirement, “The Black Album” was preloaded onto the phone and had exclusive ringtones and wallpapers. Something at that time was unheard and looked at as a positive.
