Today was the day we’ve all been waiting for. While everyone’s main focus was the iPhone 5; Apple had other announcements to make. One of them was the revamping of the iPod Touch. It got a makeover inside and out.

The body is now super thin; made of aluminum. The same aluminum used in MacBooks. It weighs less than the previous iPod Touch. It also comes in a variety of colors (like the iPod Nano). The aluminum is tough; made to endure the rough times ahead. I know my iPod touch is tough. It’s over 3 years old and still rockin’. It also comes with new Earpods. They have a funky design. I actually like them.

The display is now 4” retina display. The display got taller. Since it got taller and wider; you can still use it comfortably with one hand. It’s a lot nicer to look at when watching videos or going through your pictures. I think the iPod loop is a good idea. Keeps it handy; without you having to worry about holding it.

The 5th generation iPod touch now has a 5 megapixel iSight Camera. It shoots 1080P HD video. Apple has added the panorama feature. Other features include: tap to focus, LED flash, and face detection. I must admit this is quite the camera for a media player. It shows that devices aren’t meant to be used for one thing completely anymore.

On The Inside
This iPod is coming with the new iOS6 operating system. It has new features such as “Shared Photo Stream”; which allows you to share photos with a selected group of people. The 5th generation iPod touch now has Siri. This is all helped by the dual-core A5 chip. This isn’t your regular media player. The batter is said to last for 40 hours of music and 8 hours of video.

Wrap Up
iPod sales have been sinking; so it’s a nice surprise to see all of these improvements. I think the colors will attract a younger crowd; and it might be the go to device for a media player because of the app availability and camera. They will only be available in 32 GB ($299) and 64 GB ($399). I don’t know who will shell out nearly $400 for a media player. It’s so lightweight; at 3.10 ounces. You can preorder them now; but they will be available in October
