Here is a really interesting Kickstarter project that  I ran across today. It’s called the JuiceTank and its the first iPhone case that I’ve ever seen that has an integrated charging plug attached to it. That means that for the first time, you will not be needing a cable and wall plug to charge your iPhone. All you need to do is swing out the charging prongs and plug it directly into a wall outlet.

If you take a look at the pictures and the video, you can see that the case itself isn’t that bad looking. It reminds me of the Mophie Juice Pack a bit except that this case does not feature an integrated backup battery. It does seem to redirect the speakers upwards which is a nice touch and it looks like the case blocks up the iPhone input port but replaces it with a mini-usb port on the side instead. It makes no mention of this, but that’s what it looks like it does.

If you pledge early, you’ll be able to pick one of these up for $40, otherwise  $70 later. You can also pledge $75 for a limited edition version of the JuiceTank. Check out their Kickstarter page here for full details. [JuiceTank]

Press Release

New York – (March 15, 2012) – Innovative iPhone accessory company Detached today unveiled their inaugural product, the JuiceTank case for iPhone 4/4S, on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter. The first product of its kind, the slim case has an integrated charger that allows users to plug their phones directly into the wall.

From your pocket to the socket, the lightweight JuiceTank is the ideal cordless charging solution. The unique case features an automated plug that deploys quickly and easily when your phone needs more juice.  The plug then folds completely flat to provide maximum comfort and portability, whether you carry your phone in your pocket, purse, or luggage.

Available in a smooth jet black, JuiceTank delivers more than just efficient style and function.  The durable case is made from polycarbonate, the same material used in bulletproof glass, to provide the protection the Apple iPhone deserves. The tough but sleek outside protects phones from wear and tear, while the soft inside keeps it looking good as new.

“I had a bad habit of leaving my charger at home and getting stuck with a dead cellphone,” explains Detached founder Jesse Pliner. “The JuiceTank is the perfect answer to this common problem, remarkable in its simplicity.  When your case is your charger, you have everything you need to keep your iPhone looking great and fully charged at all times.”

The patent pending JuiceTank is expected to retail for $70, but is currently available for $55 for early adopters who contribute to the Kickstarter campaign.  Kickstarter is a collective fundraising site that allows everyday consumers to support products they want to see come to market. Funds raised for JuiceTank will contribute to the tooling and production necessary to bring JuiceTank to customers as soon as Summer 2012.

Additional pledge opportunities will bring contributors the following:
•    Pledge $75 and receive the limited edition Kickstarter JuiceTank with green accents
•    Pledge $250 and receive 5 JuiceTank cases for the iPhone 4/4S
•    Pledge $350 and receive 5 limited edition Kickstarter JuiceTank cases with green accents
