After several months of seeing my friends photos beautifully enhanced by the Instagram (Burbn, inc.) app, I went to my HTC Evo 4G to download it. The Android Market usually has the same major apps as the Apple App Store, but no luck with Instagram. Â I along with the rest of the android community rant that the Android app version of Instagram is long overdue! It has been out for over a year now; but only works with the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad with an iOS version of 3.12 or higher.
I admit I’ve been envious of iOS users and went through the trouble of using Instagram on my iPod Touch (that didn’t have a camera). Â That was a hassle. Â I wanted the option of live filters as I was taking the photos.
There have been rumors of the app coming to Android before but the CEO of Instagram, Kevin Systrom confirmed they (finally) have developers working on the Android app.
The app quickly gained popularity and a large community with over 15 million users because of its live 1970s photo filters and its square shaped photos. The Instagram community is similar to the Twitter social networking community in which users can follow one another. Photos can be shared with other social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Flickr.
The number of Instagram users is expected to more than double once it hits the Android community. There is no set date yet but it’s expected within the next six months. Â Android users rejoice and anxiously await the release!
