Ezo’s Movie Tidbits 11/23

Today I will be starting a new added feature to my present movie reviews. I will be talking about information and rumors that are floating around the movie industry.

First piece of info is that Universal Pictures has struck a deal with the estate of “The Bourne Identity” author Robert Ludlum which will give them exclusive rights to the Jason Bourne character, says Variety. The deal makes way for even more movies about the Bourne character. Matt Damon has already signed to be in the forth installment, after the first three movies grossed over 1 billion dollars worldwide. It will be directed by Paul Greengrass, and written by George Nolfi. To be released in the summer of 2010.

Next, Mila Kunis of “That 70’s Show” and recent movies such as Max Payne & Forgetting Sarah Marshall has joined the cast of “The Book of Eli”. The movie will star Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman. It’s the story of a lone hero named Eli (Washington) who fights his way across the wasteland of a near future America to protect a sacred book that holds the key to saving humanity. Kunis will play a woman named Solara, who is enlisted to betray Eli.

Timothy Olyphant of the once HBO series “Deadwood” and most recently from “The Hitman “movie, will star in a remake of the classic horror movie “The Crazies” by George A. Romero. The movie revolves around a small Kansas town that is suddenly plagued by death and insanity after a plane crashes releasing a secret biological weapon into the water supply. It will be directed by Breck Eisner.

Will Smith never stops working. He has his new movie “Seven Pounds” which will hit theaters soon and he has a lot on his plate in the future. He has resigned to play the character Robert Neville in a prequel to the movie “I Am Legend”, which will focus on all the details that happened from the point of the breakout to the time when he is the last man in New York. I think this will be a very good action packed prequel, and it will answer all the questions as to what exactly happened to cause such a disaster. Smith will also team up with acclaimed director Steven Spielberg in a remake of “OLDBOY” a movie from Chan –wook Park’s 2003 film. OLDBOY has a huge fan base that thinks that the original is a classic and shouldn’t be done over. Well Will Smith has put they’re fears to rest in a recent quote while promoting Seven Pounds. “We’re looking at that right now. Not the film though, it’s original source material. There’s the original comic of “Oldboy” that they made the first film from. And that’s what we’re working from, not an adaptation of the film… “said Smith. So apparently Steven Spielberg has acquired the right’s to the original source material of the graphic novel “Oldboy”and not the actual original film.

Last bit of info, the first poster of the highly anticipated 3rd installment of the “Underworld” franchise titled “Underworld 3: The Rise Of The Lycans” scheduled for a 2009 release is here. Check it out!
