Looking for an good performance gaming headset without the hefty price tag for it? Today is your lucky day people. Today SkullCandy releases their PLYR 1 wireless gaming headset and you know these has got to be good as they were made with another team that is a favorite here at G Style, Astro Gaming! SkullCandy acquired Astro Gaming and they definitely aren’t wasting the talent and input from this company. So while Astro Gaming is for the hardcore, the PLYR is for the mainstream! And this doesn’t mean cheap or subpar in any sense of the word, this are a good pair of gaming headsets, without going broke in the process.

Style

PLYR 1 coming in either Black or White starts off with having a really unique look to them. Instead of just a plain ole solid color bland design, the PLYR 1 comes with a very cool graphic design across the headset. Then there is the design of the headset itself, which looks split in to piece right above the ear cup. And wrapping up the look is the SkullCandy logo on the outside of the ear cup which is small, and on the inside of the ear cup, but larger but not overbearing in anyway. All in all SkullCandy did a good job with the look of these, threw a splash of graphic design to offset the solid color and didn’t go logo happy all over the headset. Leaving you with something you would enjoy wearing of showing us when friends come to plan with you.

Sound & Tech

The SkullyCandy PLYR 1 is SkullCandy’s wireless headset, the flagship of the line and they pack in a bunch of cool features. Besides it being wireless of course, the PLYR 1 has an proprietary Supreme Sound technology which serves up some big bass and precision highs. It also has Dolby 7.1 surround sound. The PLYR 1′s headset stand has a built-in wireless transmitter which sends out 7.1 surround sound for your Xbox 360, PS3, or PC.

Also there are the Equilizer modes. With them get the best audio whether you are playing a game, listening to music, or watching a movie. These modes are Bass Mode, Supreme Mode, and Precision mode. I of course am partial to Bass mode as I love my bass! Once thing also noticed like on the Astro Gaming’s A50 headset, is the way you can mute the mic. Simply flip it up and you have muted it. To return to back simply flip it down. Simple and to the point.

Experience & Wrap Up

Using the PLYR 1s left me with no regrets. Setup was fairly easy and I was ready to game in no time. They also sit pretty comfortable on your head and even after extended use I felt no discomfort. When it came to battery power, I was able to get about roughly 8 hours between some games, music, and even watched a movie. As far as charging, you can get a good decent amount of power back after a good couple hours, but I would suggest doing them like you would your cell phone, just plug it up at night so you are good for the next day.

Now the SkullyCandy PLYR 1 is on sale night at Best Buy and if you are looking to get a pair, this is where you will have to go for the next two week, as Best Buy has lock in a exclusive period with them. You can get them at Best Buy right now for $179.99. This price isn’t bad at all for a very good pair of wireless gaming headset. So if you are looking for something that is still stylish, delivers on the sound/feature quality, and without paying an arm and leg…The PLYR 1s are for you.

What you’re looking at is the new PlayStation 4, DualShock 4 controller. It still carries that familiar PlayStation controller shape but has been improved in order to house new features. The biggest change here is the addition of a new capacitive touchpad up front and new light bar on the top that can help display quick player information through pulses and color and is also said to interact with the new Eye camera. The start and select buttons are now gone and have been moved to a new “options” button while a new “share” button allows players to broadcast their gameplay in real time. Another improvement is the addition of dual stereo speakers on the controller itself along with the addition of a mic jack which the PS4 will now come bundled with a mic.

Sony did not show what the new PlayStation 4 however, only what the controller and new Eye camera look like. It’s a start. For more detailed information about the new DualShock 4, check out the press release below.

Press Release

NEW YORK, Feb. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced Wireless Controller for PlayStation®4 (DUALSHOCK®4) and PlayStation®4 Eye, a new camera, along with PlayStation®4 (PS4™), its next generation computer entertainment system.

Wireless Controller for PlayStation®4 (DUALSHOCK®4)

Utilizing a similar design as the popular Wireless Controller for PlayStation®3(DUALSHOCK®3), DUALSHOCK®4 features new innovations to deliver better gaming experiences. DUALSHOCK®4 incorporates a new highly sensitive six-axis sensor, as well as a touch pad located on the front of the controller, which offers gamers completely new ways to play and interact with games.

DUALSHOCK®4 features a light bar on the top with three color LEDs that illuminate in various colors. The light bar illuminates to match the color of characters in a game to offer a simpler, more friendly way to identify players, even when playing side by side. The light bar also changes patterns during gameplay to provide useful information to gamers, such as when a character is critically low on health or has taken major damage.

In addition, DUALSHOCK®4 will come with a built-in speaker and stereo headset jack, enabling PS4 users to enjoy high-fidelity sound effects of games from both the TV and also from the controller. Combined with the Mono Headset that will be bundled with PS4, gamers will also be able to chat with friends playing online, while hearing sound effects from the controller in hand.

While integrating “SELECT” and “START” buttons on DUALSHOCK®3 Wireless Controller into a new “OPTIONS button”, DUALSHOCK®4 is newly equipped with a “SHARE button” to further enhance PS4?s social capabilities. The “SHARE button” allows gamers to easily broadcast their gameplay in real-time to friends through internet streaming services such as Ustream. Users can also share their triumphs and accomplishments by uploading video gameplay to Facebook with the “SHARE button”. Unlike streaming content via PC, users no longer have to convert data formats of their recorded gameplay, but can share it with ease. Additionally, gamers can charge DUALSHOCK®4 while PS4 is on standby or through a dedicated charging station. For convenience, DUALSHOCK®4 can also be charged with smartphone chargers via USB.

During the creation of DUALSHOCK®4, Sony Computer Entertainment worked with key partners in the development community to improve the feel of the left / right sticks and the trigger buttons, the result is a much tighter sense of control over in-game actions.

Coming from the brink of extinction is news of the return of the WikiPad. If you were keeping an eye on it last year, it was being touted as the perfect gaming tablet. There was a 10″ model set to release in late Fall 2012 for $499.99. The release date came and went and nothing was heard about WikiPad.

Unfortunately there was a flaw in the initial production so bad they had to take it back to the drawing board and redo some things. During that timeframe they did listen to their eager supporters of the platform and others and seen that a 7″ model maybe the best fit for them. The 10″ model will still be released at a later date.

The 7″ model will be built with a NVIDIA quad-core processor, 16GBs of storage with microSD capability up to 32GB. A IPS display, 2MP Front camera, Dual Band WiFi N, Bluetooth 4.0, various sensors and will be running Android’s Jelly Bean OS.

A 7″ size looks to be a good fit and releasing it at a price point of $249.99 should put it in the realm of tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and Nexus 7 tablet pricing.

It does still look to have a backing from the gaming providers and I can imagine mobile gamers are going to flock to it as mobile gaming as been on the rise as of late(I myself have been addicted to some).

Keep an eye out on a Spring 2013 release of the WikiPad and if you want to read more about it can check the presser below.

Whether it’s for the causal gamer who just needs them to chit chat online for a few or the hard-core gamer who will use the pro headsets to discuss tactical set-ups with their teams it seems they have you covered on every system, or so we thought.

Design

The Kunai has the typical design we’ve come to know from Tritton bright colors, good quality sound and a bold design. These headsets are not as big the previous one, they a tad bit smaller, which is great because they don’t have much weight to them. The glossy white finish meshes well with the glossy black finish of the Wii U, unless you purchased the 8GB Basic Set, then it will match it perfectly. The ear cups are much smaller than many other competitors’.

Features

The Kunai for the Nintendo Wii U doesn’t feature a whole lot, especially when it comes to being a gaming headset. It has the typical detachable microphone and in-line controller. The in-line cord is attached to the 3- foot cable, and is used to control the volume and mute chat. There is no set up required on the system; it’s just a simple plug in to the Wii U GamePad– and play. This can also be plugged into the Nintendo 3DS for the same functionality.

To accommodate with most audio devices out there today, the headset does use a standard 3.5mm jack. However, with the short cable, it did fall victim to unplugging quite often. This is a headset used for not only gaming, but for listening to music. It features similar 40mm neodymium drivers for stereo sound. If you are looking for a headset that has multiple functionality and does not have that obese look to it, then the Kunai series is perfect.

The quality is actually good not the best even though it is not in full surround sound, it has some excellent stereo sound. The only big gripe I have with the headset is when playing on the Wii U; you only hear what the Wii U game pad outputs. The game audio is output through the television while the communication and inventory is controlled through the game pad. This is what you hear and not the actual game itself.

I’m not to saying that the 40mm speakers don’t pack a loud punch, but rather the sound source itself. The set will differentiate left and right channel noises along with movements, but only if the Wii U game pad supports it. The left and right audio seemed to work better with the Nintendo 3DS. The headset actually sounded better on the handheld than the Wii U. The Kunai is not just for the Wii U and 3Ds you can also use them as headphones for your MP3 player. The sound through the headset sounds just like a standard set of stereo headphones.

Conclusion

The Kunai is a good headset overall, Overall, It has the intangibles of being a headset or headphones, by just detaching the microphone. Aside from the in-line controller, the headset doesn’t have any kind of special features, but where it lacks in features, it makes up for in sound. The sound quality is good and the headset feels great around your ears. If you’re looking for a really nice headset for the 3DS or Wii U, you really can’t beat this one.

Price: $49.99.

I can admit that when it comes to PC gaming, I used to think that any old regular mouse would do. I used to PC game a lot back in my high school and college days, which was back when the only real multiplayer games out there were Unreal Tournament and Mechwarrior. To me, it just wasn’t that necessary to get some fancy programmable mouse. In fact, I don’t even think they had any back then. Fast forward to 2013. Over the past decade or so, I’d say that most of my gaming was confined to consoles only, the Xbox, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. It wasn’t until recently that I got back into PC gaming and again, I thought I could get away with just using a regular old optical mouse to play games. Technically, I could, but what a difference a dedicated gaming mouse makes, especially with customizable buttons and macro creation. With that said, the mouse I am using currently is the ROCCAT Savu, ROCCAT’s entry level gaming mouse that has enough programmable options to satisfy most of your gaming needs. Not only is it a great gaming mouse, it’s also a very good looking PC accessory.

Design and Build Quality

The ROCCAT Savu isn’ t a crazy, futuristic, robotic-looking gaming mouse like you might see from others. Instead, it is quite minimalistic and stealth looking, like a fighter jet and features mainly all matte black surfaces. The only shiny parts on the Savu are the two thumb buttons which are both programmable. It’s very understated and not very flashy at first glance until you see the Savu’s slick looking, programmable light bar. I say programmable because unlike other illuminated PC accessories out there, the Savu allows you to choose over 16.8 million colors. That’s right, you can pretty much make the Savu light up with any color you can think of or series of different color combinations. It’s all customizable and very cool looking.

The Savu features a soft touch coating on the upper part of the mouse for comfort and gives it a nice feel over just bare plastic. The sides of the Savu feature special perspiration-resistant coating on its side grips called “No Sweat” that provides steady, slip-free play no matter how sweaty your fingers get. It has a rough feeling to it and almost feels a bit like high-grit sandpaper. Now the scroll wheel on the mouse has a rubbery feel to it that helps with finger grip while scrolling and it also has a nice clicking feel with each turn. This means you can be more accurate with your scrolls which can mean the difference between life and death in a multiplayer online match.

It’s also a mouse that isn’t adjustable for comfort. Instead, what you see is what you get and for me at least, it fits my hand perfectly. It’s perfectly curved to fit the curvature of my palm and the thumb groove is also perfectly placed. Same goes for the curvature of the pinky rest. It just feels really good and really comfortable. There really is no other way to explain it other than that.

Usage

For the most part, if you buy the ROCCAT Savu to use as a regular mouse, it’s going to function just like a regular mouse. Plugging it into your computer alone will allow it to just do what most normal mouse do. Left and right buttons, the scroll wheel, and the center click. If you want it to do much more than that however, you’ll need to install the special ROCCAT driver software for the Savu which you can get here.

With the special ROCCAT Savu driver installed, you’ll be able to do a wealth of things you aren’t able to do with a regular mouse. For starters, the mouse will now be fully programmable and able to perform various custom functions as well as custom macros you assign to the buttons. The driver software makes this easy to do as it comes with a list of preset functions you can use for each button. You can also record macros using the macro manager and assign those to a button as well. On top of that, each button can have multiple functions thanks to the use of the Easy Shift button. You hold down this button while pressing down on another button to activate the secondary function. It’s very easy to do and the graphical interface makes it very easy to keep track of what you assign what to.

The driver software also allows you to create custom profiles so you can use them with different games. That means you don’t have to configure the buttons each time you play a different game. All you have to do is load up your already made profile for that game and it will change all the buttons for you. This makes it easy to play multiple games quickly without the time consuming process of customizing the buttons each time.

Of course one of the main features of the Savu is the glowing LED light on its base. With the driver software, you can change the color of this light to over 16 million different shades. You can even make the light change colors and flash over time. I have it set up where the light pulses and with each pulse, it turns into a different shade. It’s a cool effect that makes the mouse look like its alive and breathing.

Final Thoughts

The ROCCAT Savu is something I thought I would never need, but now that I have it, it’s something that I can not live without. It is the most comfortable mouse I’ve ever used and I really love the matte finish that is used on it. For gaming, I do find that it is a lot more accurate than my previous non-gaming mouse and you can really tell the difference. I love that you can adjust the dpi settings on the fly and make the mouse more or less accurate depending on your current situation without going into the settings menu, if you have it set up as a custom button.

Not only that, it’s also a great mouse for everyday use. Again, because you can assign custom functions to each button, it makes tasks like browsing websites that much faster. You can assign forward and back options as buttons as well as any other function like bringing up the history, and reloading pages. You can also do the same for other apps as well.

Overall, the ROCCAT Savu is an awesome mouse for those who want something better than what they are currently using, but also not too overly complicated like some of the other gaming mouses out there. Basically the Savu works right out the box as long as you install the driver software and customizing it to your needs is a breeze.

As for looks, I think the Savu is a great looking mouse. I love that most of the mouse if flat black and has a very stealthy look to it but then you have the LED light that is the complete opposite of stealth but compliments it quite well. Most mouse never draw attention from those walking by, but the ROCCAT Savu definitely does.

This will be the seventh version of God of War coming out and a prequel to all of them that have come thus far. The gameplay is still the same from what I played besides some new added features and mini games. Of course the graphics have been touched up even more as they always are with the God of War series.

Also while playing I was able to check out the Sony PS3 Pulse wireless headset, the successor to the previous PS3 Wireless Stereo Headset model and they look to produce a better sound quality and comfort experience. They have been out awhile now but they are superb to demonstrate the greatness which is God of War: Ascension.

God of War:Ascension is set to hit store in the US on March 12, 2013 and other countries days after.

By strengthening its feature set and usability, the PX22 will upgrade the overall experience of the popular Ear Force PX21.

Ear Force PX22 MSRP $79.95; Availability Q2 2013

New Range of Headsets Arrive and Boost PC Gaming Audio

Ear Force Z SEVEN, Ear Force Z300 and Ear Force Z22 for PC gaming

In 2013 Turtle Beach is releasing a collection of gaming headsets that will provide superior quality, comfort, control and customization to meet the unique needs of PC gamers. From the SEVEN Series, the Z SEVEN will be the first gaming headset available for gamers in need of a tournament grade audio that can also deliver an extraordinary experience with movies and music.

The Z300 headset further supports Turtle Beach’s commitment to PC gaming with an advanced wireless solution that includes high-end features such as Dual Band WiFi for an interference-free connection, a rechargeable lithium polymer battery with a 15 hour lifespan and Bluetooth technology. The Z300 is the only Bluetooth enabled PC headset capable of answering calls or streaming music via a mobile device while playing a game.

Lastly, Turtle Beach is releasing the new USB powered Z22 headset for PC gamers in search of a high value audio experience. With full mobile compatibility and analog inputs, the Z22 is the first PC headset featuring Chat Boost, variable Bass and Treble Boost for a powerful audio performance across the sonic spectrum.

Both pricing and availability for the Ear Force Z300 and the Z22 headsets will be released in the coming months.

When combined with the Turtle Beach’s competitive advantage in distribution and retail point-of-sale presence, the company expects the new range of PC headsets to deliver innovative features and superior audio quality to PC gamers. According to The NPD Group, in 2012 Turtle Beach led all first and third party manufacturers on sales, in units and dollars, of gaming headsets.

Mobile Headset Sales Poised for Growth as More Gamers Turn to Mobile Gaming

Gaming is both a driver and a beneficiary of the huge growth in the mobile device market. After checking email, gaming represents the second most frequent use of a tablet**, and ranks ahead of making phone calls, emails and texting on smartphones. Mobile device unit sales now exceed PC sales, and for the first time in 2012 broadband use on mobile devices exceeds use on PCs***.

As the displays, processing power and battery life of mobile devices has improved; mobile video games have increased in quality and complexity. As the excellence of games and gameplay continues to improve on mobile devices, more consumers will seek a superior audio experience to compliment the raised mobile standard.

Only Turtle Beach has a full line of mobile gaming headsets to fill that need, delivering excellent audio quality at all price points. With an emphasis on portability – headsets that are designed to work across consoles, PCs and mobile devices – Turtle Beach has a distinct advantage with gaming enthusiasts who are likely to play games on multiple platforms. And within the category, only Turtle Beach is delivering a robust retail point-of-sale presence, with superior product packaging and in-store kiosks. As mobile gaming accessories emerge as a category, no gaming headset company is positioned as well as Turtle Beach to benefit and support the expanding market.

You and your team are about to go up against another team that has been talking trash in the online lobby, you know for a fact you can’t lose now because if you do, you and your team will look like punks.

The battle begins; you get taken out, while you’re waiting to respawn your hands have become sweaty from being anxious, what do you? You wipe your hands on your thighs; you do this a couple of times throughout the game.

Now I know we have all been there before, it becomes annoying and sometimes we blame our poor gaming stats on that one reason. I’ve been looking for something to put on my controller it stop the annoying habit of whipping sweat on my clothes, well the guys at Squidgrip have come up with a solution.

Design

I received the Xbox 360 version, now putting the grips on is extremely easy, just stick the grips onto the controller’s arms, and stick all around it now make sure the grips are all around the controller because sections liked to lift off the controller. Here’s a piece of advice apply the grips on when you know you are going to play for a while, that way they stay on firmly and you won’t have to worry about them lifting.

SquidGrips are made from an extremely durable foam that is both latex free (just in case some of you are allergic) and anti-microbial, so if you have pets you don’t have to worry about pet hair or dust collecting on them. You don’t have to worry about your controller looking bulky, the way SquidGrips designed them will not take away from the look of your controller.

Over All Performance

When I applied the SquidGrips I decided to see how well they can soak up sweat, and what’s the best way to test that? Play the most stressful and competitive game out..Black Ops II. I grabbed two of my friends and we played a couple of online matches, NOT once did I wipe my hands on my thighs, to tell you the truth I didn’t feel my hands getting sweaty or clammy. Not only does it keep my hands dry but is also surprisingly comfortable, it has this nice “cushion” feeling which is a good thing for those all night gaming sessions.

Conclusion

This has to be one of the best gaming accessories to come out, SquidGrip is comfortable, and an easy ONE time application. Now they only come in black, I am hoping they add a couple of different colors in the near feature, but you can customize colors for the SquidGrips logo for an extra $2.99. For $14.99 this is a must have for any gamer, now if they could come up with some SquidGrips for arcade sticks I’ll truly be one happy gamer (crosses fingers).

The Call of Duty Franchise has sold Millions of copies over the years; we’ve seen the series go from Modern Warfare to the producer taking us back to World at War which focused around the WWII era (not one of the best COD that came out). One of the popular features has become the Zombie packs, gamers have been known to buy the game just for that. Now we have seen different story-lines when it come to COD, but Black Ops II truly has a unique feel to it.

STORYLINE

The story is told from the two perspectives, with one plot arc following the antics of original Black Ops characters Alex Mason and Sgt Frank Woods during the Cold War and the second Mason’s son in 2025 missions, both plot revolve around the characters’ fights against Bond-level super villain Raul Menendez and his terrorist organisation Cordis Die. What makes the plot interesting than other COD game? Menendez, who is supposed to be a villain, isn’t entirely evil. Menendez is a tragic induvial whose hatred of the Western world and the existing world order is entirely understandable.

Black Ops 2′s single player campaign has several different possible endings. Which ending you get is informed by your choices and success during the campaign’s missions. Who you kill or don’t kill will clearly change how the story will end.

As well as changing the story’s final conclusion, your choices also have an effect on the direction the main campaign takes. For example, if you fail to take out a target in a mission then you may run the risk that they will appear later, or kill the target prematurely and you might not get crucial intel that would make your next mission easier.

STRIKE FORCE MISSIONS

Strike Force missions are shorter objective-based segments of the game that add a real time strategy element to Black Ops 2′s core first-person shooter gameplay. This gives you control over a group of soldiers and various drone units and generally have simple directives like protect this area. The missions let you either take direct command of one of your units and play the mission as a shooter or take a more strategic view, ordering squads’ movements from an overhead map screen. You can switch between the two modes at any time, creating a hybrid RTS/FPS experience similar to the one seen in titles like Carrier Commander.

The strategy based game was my least favorite I will say it’s an interesting concept, but it falls apart within a couple of minutes of game-play . There is too much action to manage three or more units at once, at one point I got confused on where I moved them and what units I moved, since the units are not capable to tackle objectives on their own or smart/fast enough to make their way to objectives themselves after spawning into the map your only hope to get through this is by personally controlling individual units from the first-person viewpoint.

Now again completing these missions such as Strike Force or even the objectives in the main campaign will effect later events in the game so if you think “Oh I’ll just hurry up with this mission so I can get it over with” not a smart move, remember the better you do the better perks you will obtain ex.using information obtained from an interrogation to provide valuable information later.

MULTIPLAYER

I will say this I was more impressed with the Single campaign than the Multiplayer, I see Treyarch did try to add a couple of new things like pick 10 mechanic to its load out system and new score based reward system. Let me breakdown what Pick 10 is, this means that instead of having to create a load out based on the present rules of the game – one primary weapon, one secondary, grenade type, attachment, perks – you can now create a “truly custom” arsenal that lets you pick as many items as you want from each category.

The mechanic does this by allocating each item a “points” value. Creating a load out, players are granted 10 points that they can use to load whatever they want. This means you can actually create a “truly custom” load out designed to match your online playing style.

We also have the Score Streaks system which replaces the previously seen Kill Streak system. The change means that you no longer receive in-game rewards, like airstrikes and radar, for getting a kill streak. Instead in Black Ops II the rewards are handed out for scoring a set number of points in a row.

This thankful ends the tendency to reward hard-core statistics, who had developed a habit of using objective matches as a quick and easy way to improve their Kill/Death ratio statistic by picking off gamers actually looking to play the mission. When it comes to actual online multiplayer modes, Black Ops 2 boasts all the classic options seen in previous Call of Duty games, including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Search and Destroy. The Maps are greatly designed and have great place for “campers” to hide, along with offer a good amount of stunning and diverse locales, which comes as a relief following the tragic, arenas of Modern Warfare 3 .

If you are new to playing online multiplayer on Black Ops II get ready to become extremely angry and frustrated, let’s be honest the COD community is unforgiving, these guys usually play all day and all night, some are even competitive gamers. The company did not do a good job in rank matches, seen in other games you will usually be matched with others in your skill level.

Let me give you an example; Activision sent me a copy of the game two days after the launch date (Two days is like 2 weeks when it comes to COD) Now the people who received the game before me of course are a higher skill level than me, I was thrown into a party where gamers were level 20, I got destroyed and here comes the trash talking, after we exchanged a couple of four letter words I eventually turned off the game before I threw the controller across the room.

LEAGUE PLAY:

This is something new to the COD series league play is all skilled based, you will play a few matches to get your skills ranking up at this point you will be placed into a group that has the same skill level, now this was more enjoyable to play you didn’t feel like you are going up against someone who has more experience than you, now why they didn’t use this method in the main Mutliplayer as an option is beyond me, hopefully that will change with the next COD.

If you are new to the series I strongly suggest you start here to learn basic skills before you continue on to the main online multiplayer mode.

ZOMBIES

This wouldn’t be a Call of Duty game without zombies being added. Zombie mode is back and has been revamped by adding several new things, namely Tranzit and a new mode called Grief. Tranzit acts as a campaign mode of sorts with a larger world, but where you’ll still be doing the same thing as in past Zombie maps, as you fend off waves, use points to buy new weapons, power-ups, or open up new areas to explore. If you want to shrink the map down to a more traditional Zombie map, there’s the standard Survival mode where each map area has its own rules.

Finally there’s Grief, where two teams fight to see who can survive the longest while trying to screw up the other team efforts as much as you can was pretty fun, you stun players who are trying to revive a friend or attracting zombies to a group and having them attack them.

Zombies is best played with a group of friends, playing against randoms isn’t as entertaining and yet again I don’t find the only matchmaking too great either, but playing it is was a whole lot of fun especially when you are yelling back and forth at each other “look behind you, you idiot” I did get a couple of laughs out of that.

CONCLUSION

Treyarch did a great job on the single player campaign, the cut-scenes kept you intrigued and couldn’t’ wait to see what Menendez was up to next. The story-line was refreshing, I would like them to really work on the online-match ups; I’m sure playing online for the first time is a turn off for some people, especially if they have no chance in leveling up if they are not able to make a kill. If the company tweaks a few sections in the game, I can see this franchise just getting better over the years.

They range from low end headsets to more expensive high end headsets and in the end, the ones you choose are mainly based on what you can afford. Why are gaming headsets big business? Well, because most consoles these days don’t include headsets unless you buy an Xbox 360, and the ones included with that are crap. They only allows for chat and don’t immerse you in the game. If you are an avid gamer, the first thing you’ll want to invest in is a good gaming headset, one that not only allows for chat, but also allows you to hear the games as if you were actually in the games. One such company that makes gaming headsets is Skullcandy and their latest headset, the PLYR 2 is what I’m looking at today. What makes these quite interesting is that Astro Gaming had their hand with the design of these and it shows. As a disclaimer, I love Astro Gaming headsets and own not only the critically acclaimed A40 headsets, but the A30headsets as well. That’s why I was excited when I heard about the PLYR 2 and even more excited that I would be able to get my hands on a pair.

The Skullcandy PLYR 2 features wireless technology, Skullcandy’s proprietary Supreme Sound technology, 3 separate equalizer modes, an adjustable boom mike, and the ability to be used on an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and most mobile phones, tablets, and MP3 players.

Design and Build Quality

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Skullcandy PLYR 2 headsets id that this is not a typical Skullcandy design. In fact, I’d say they are completely different from anything Skullcandy has made in the past. Again, this is probably attributed to having Astro Gaming as part of their family now and the influence they are having in their designs. The PLYR 2 headsets are very clean looking, with a design that is very attractive, functional, comfortable, and sleek. The PLYR 2 headsets are available in 3 different color combinations, the ones I received were the matte black pair with yellow accents.

Unlike the previously mentioned Astro Gaming A30 and A40 headsets, the PLYR 2 headsets do not need a separate wireless adapter in order to function wirelessly. Instead, they are built into the headset itself, similar to the new A50 headsets. All you need to do it connect the wireless receiver to your TV and gaming console and you’re pretty much set to use them. On the wireless receiver, you need to plug in the audio cables first that connect to your television set that goes between the audio cable from your gaming console to your TV. The connect the included USB cable to your video console for power. I like this setup because it does not require a separate AC adapter which takes up space. There is also another USB cable you can connect to the wireless receiver that will charge your headset when not in use. Yes, the PLYR 2 headsets are rechargeable and do not require batteries. Huge plus here in my book as batteries don’t come cheap. On the right ear piece, you’ll find the power button to turn on the headset as well as the volume control “joystick” which I’ve never seen this type on control on a headset before. Basically each tirection o nthe joystick either lowers or raises the volume as well as allows you to adjust game or chat volume. It’s pretty ingenious actually.

On the design side of things, the PLYR 2 headsets are full of little details. Padded ear surrounds as well as padded head support, an intricate design etched into both side ear pieces, and even on the inside of the ear pieces themselves, Skullcandy has their logo somehow burned into the padding. It really is a gorgeous design and the yellow accents just make it stand out even more. The boom mic on the left side is also a very elegant piece. It’s entirely surrounded in rubber and very solid feeling. You’re able to bend it to almost any position and it actually stays in position. It even includes a very handy feature. Flip it down to chat in-game or flip it back up to mute chat. Very simple to use and again, ingenious.

Usage

Using the Skullcandy PLYR 2 gaming headsets couldn’t be more easy. Basically you just hook up the wireless receiver between your TV and gaming console and then sync the headset to the receiver. That’s an easy process as well as you just hold down both power buttons and wait until they stop flashing. Very simple and pain free. On the PlayStation 3 and PC, you’re pretty much set to go after but if you’re using this on an Xbox 360, you’ll have to hook up another cable from the headset to your game controller. This obviously is less elegant, but blame this on the Xbox 360 for making you do it this way. It’s the same way for all headsets used on the 360, but mainly if you plan to use it for chat.

To control the volume on the PLYR 2 headset, use the 4-way control stick on the right earpiece. Up and down control the volume globally while left and right adjusts the amount of in-game volume in relation to in-game chat volume. On the right earpiece, you’ll also find the 3-way toggle for EQ modes. This is used to switch between game, movie, and music sound profiles. To recharge your headset, just plug it into a USB cable and you’re good to go. It doesn’t take that long either to fully recharge them.

The PLYR 2 headset can also adjust to pretty much any head size. They are adjustable height and they are springy enough where they can also adjust to head width. Again, I find them to be very comfortable to wear for long periods of time thanks to the heavy padding and I like the fact that the ear pieces fir around your ears and don’t sit on top of them. The padding used is very soft allowing them to easily mold itself to your head.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Skullcany PLYR 2 headsets are a great alternative to the more expensive Astro Gaming headsets. They may not feature the advanced Dolby Digital 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, but for the casual gamer who wants something better than the stock headsets, these are definitely a step above the rest. I would say these are just as good as the Astro Gaming headsets in terms of quality and build and the wireless feature is certainly a huge plus. They might not have the high end sound quality that the Astro Gaming headsets have, but in my opinion, they still sound great and again, the average gamer will be very happy with these.

The price of the Skullcandy PLYR 2 gaming headsets are around $129.95. That is very competitive pricing considering most others are a bit more or around the same price range for similarly spec’d wireless headsets, but with these, you get headsets that very comfortable, well made, easy to set up, and despite just being stereo headsets, they sound very good.

Don’t know which games to purchase? Here’s a game for all types of players. I am reviewing the game Smart As for the PlayStation Vita. I have always been into logic/brain games. I play Sudoku on a daily basis and played Brain Age on my Nintendo DS.

Needless to say that I was more than thrilled when I heard a brain/puzzle game would be out for the PS Vita. It’s a great game to play with a little free time. So what did I think about Sony’s attempt at a brain logic/game?

About Smart As

We all know how important exercising your brain is. I am surprised that these games haven’t caught on more with the rising use of mobile phones.

The game is called Smart As The Socially networked brain game. While the concept of a brain game doesn’t appeal to everyone; I assure you that Smart As is more fun than it sounds. Similar to many brain games; you have to complete a set of daily challenges that engage different parts of your brain. The areas that are tested are responsible for Arithmetic, Language, Logic and Observation. Adding up the activities from these four categories will you your “percentage”; which is really your score in “Brain Power”. There are five games for each category (twenty games total). The games get more difficult as you go higher in rank The more difficult games will take quite some time to unlock. As you go daily; you improve your score and new challenges are unlocked. I wish it really wasn’t that hard to unlock. What a great reason to use your PS Vita on a daily basis.

My Favorite Puzzles

Roller Blocks

Roller Blocks Puzzle in Smart As For PS Vita

I have a love hate relationship with this puzzle. You have to get the blocks on to their specified targets. You have to maneuver the Vita around to make the blocks roll on to the targets. This puzzle will get you hooked; since it isn’t so easy. It requires a lot of focus and concentration to move jiggle the Vita around for those precise movements.

Chain Reaction
An interesting puzzle; you have to connect the dots based on colors. When forming the lines (chains); can’t cross each other. So all the red dots have to form a chain, and the blue do too; but those chains cannot cross with one another.

Number Pinch
There are six numbers floating around (two of them are drawn bigger than the other four). The You must pinch the correct two numbers together to equal the sum of one of the larger numbers.

Sum Sequence
This game can get you dizzy. You have to keep track of all the numbers showing up on the screen. The numbers are part of a long equation. So it will show you “2″ then “x 3″ (6) then “+4″ (10) “-5″ (5) and so forth. You have to keep calculating the answer every time another part of the equation shows up on the screen. At the end of each session you have to write in the final answer.

Less Equals More
Another arithmetic puzzle. This one involves quick thinking and great number skills. There are two towers of numbers; and you have to decide if the number on the left is less than, equal to, or greater than the number on the right. You can’t take your time; as both speed and accuracy are measured.

Odd Word Out

Smart As For PS Vita – Odd Word Out

In this puzzle you will be offered four words. You have to pick which one is the odd one out. The challenge is a bit easy; but they time you.

Path Finder
In this logic game; you have to coordinate the blocks to make sure the piece can get to its set target with the preset moves that are shown on the screen. It took me a while to get this game.

Social Interaction

After completing your daily training you can upload your brain power score to twitter and Facebook. But a great added bonus with this game is that challenges aren’t only against the PS Vita; you can challenge your friends as well as strangers. With Street Smart Challenges you can play games constructed by other players near your location. You can see how you measure up against others in your area that took the same Street Smart Challenge. This brings the game to a whole other level.

Is It Smart To Pick Up Smart As For The PS Vita?

The PlayStation Vita has sort of slow start. It seems that they are coming out with more games and Smart As is one that I would definitely pick up. It is suitable for all ages. The competition that this game fires up within you is crazy. I found myself yelling and hissing when I missed or couldn’t get a challenge. I would get upset when I had a low brain score. It’s a great feeling to unlock a game. John Cleese’s clever remarks when narrating your progress are delightfully funny. The controls work great on this game. There is absolutely no lagging. The load times are very short, and you learn fun facts in between.

At $30; it might be a bit overpriced yet still affordable. But you’ll enjoy great, colorful graphics and a good reason to use your Vita. I looked forward to my Daily training and I think you will too. The games were a lot of fun and challenging. For a better idea of the game; check out the trailer below.

Many classic characters from the game, including Red, were featured as multiplayer avatars in Red Dead Redemption’s Legends & Killers Pack.
