New In Theaters Review: The Last Exorcism

Wednesday, September 1, 2010 10:28 am

When reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) hires a film crew to document himself, his motive is to show the tricks of the trade of being a preacher and also to expose himself as the fraudulent preacher that he is. He tells them that he will also show that the people he has performed exorcisms on are nothing more than religious fanatics who believe that they are possessed by demons. He picks a letter that he has received from someone wanting him to perform an exorcism, and he and the film crew go out to a farm in Louisiana. Once they get there Cotton meets with Louis Sweetzer (Louis Herthum), who tells him that his daughter Nell (Ashley Bell) is possessed and has been killing his cattle in the middle of the night.

Its Spring Break time and thousands of teenagers have gathered at Lake Victoria for their annual spring break activities of swimming, drinking, and partying. Some distance away a tremor has cracked open the lakes floor, and has unleashed a prehistoric strain of piranha fish. These fish are hungry and they’re ready to devour anything they run across in their path. When Sheriff Julie Forester (Elisabeth Shue) learns about the razor-sharp teeth man-eaters, it’s a race against time to try and get all of the teenagers out of the water before the piranhas attack.

New In Theaters Review: The Expendables

Sylvester Stallone once said that Hollywood didn’t have any more parts for him to play. I think that was the best thing that could have happened to him, because he is becoming quite the action movie director. In his new movie “The Expendables” which he wrote the screenplay for and directed, he stars as Barney Ross a leader of a band of mercenaries who get an assignment from a mysterious government agent named Church (Bruce Willis), to go and kill a ruthless dictator, General Gaza (David Zayas) in a South American country. When he takes his long time friend and one of his best soldiers, Lee Christmas (Jason Statham) on a reconnaissance mission to Vilene to meet with the contact, a freedom fighter named Sandra (Giselle Itie), he discovers that the mission may actually be to take out a rogue ex-CIA operative named James Monroe (Eric Roberts) who along with his henchman Paine (Stone Cold Steve Austin) are controlling the country and its army by paying off the General.

New In Theaters Review: The Other Guys

Will Ferrell never seems to disappoint. In his new movie which co-stars Mark Walberg, they play two detectives, Allen Gamble & Terry Hoitz (Ferrell & Walberg) who are assigned together as partners. Allen is content with just being an account detective, while Terry wants to get back in the field and show his talents. The reason Allen and Terry are partners is because Terry had an accident that involved Derek Jeter, and has never been able to get over it, or anyone else for that matter. Allen idolizes two other detectives, who are the city’s best cops, Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson) and Danson (Dwayne Johnson), and this puts a strain on his relationship with his partner. Then when Highsmith and Danson are suddenly taken out of the equation, it’s time for the other guys to step up to the plate. Also going after the top detectives spot are two other detectives, Martin (Rob Riggle) and Fosse (Damon Wayans, Jr) who feel they are the right choice to fill the shoes once held by Highsmith & Danson. Will Allen and Terry be able to put their differences aside to solve a major case?

New In Theaters Review: Dinner With Schmucks

Wednesday, August 4, 2010 11:02 am

This past weekend audiences were invited to take part in a special dinner only reserved for the crème de la crème, or as others may refer to them, “Schmucks”. In the movie “Dinner with Schmucks” an up and coming executive named Tim (Paul Rudd) gets invited to an exclusive dinner his boss host’s once a month, where he and the other execs invite idiots to dinner so that they can make fun of them. The one who brings the biggest idiot then gets bragging rights for the rest of the month. Tim doesn’t like the idea, but he feels it’s the only way for him to get in good with his boss, so that he can advance at the company. Tim then runs into Barry (Steve Carell), literally as he is driving. When he gets out of his car to see if he’s ok, he discovers that Barry is somewhat of an artist. Barry builds dioramas of events in history with dead mice, which he calls his mouse-terpieces. Tim realizes that he has just found his contestant for the dinner and invites Barry to accompany him.
