New in Theaters Review: Alice In Wonderland

Tim Burton’s vision of “Alice in Wonderland” hit theaters this past weekend. In the story, Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to Wonderland now at the age of 19. Things are quite different from when she last visited as a child. She has no recollection of ever being there, but her friends the white rabbit, dormouse, tweedledee and tweedledum, caterpillar, the Cheshire cat, and The Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) have been patiently awaiting her return. They tell her that she is destined to stop the reign of the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter), who has taken over Wonderland from The White Queen (Anne Hathaway). Now with the help of her friends, Alice must retrieve a sacred sword, which will help her defeat the Red Queen’s most hideous and fearful beast.

New In Theaters Review: Cop Out

In Cop Out, two longtime NYPD partners, Jimmy (Bruce Willis) and Paul (Tracy Morgan) get caught up with a gang, when Jimmy’s rare baseball card is stolen and ends up in the hands of the gang’s leader, Poh Boy (Guillermo Diaz). Jimmy needs this card so he can sell it to pay for his daughter’s upcoming wedding. His partner, Paul is not much help because he is too pre-occupied with thinking that his wife is cheating on him. The two of them make a deal with Poh Boy. He has had a car stolen from him and he wants it back and he’ll give them the baseball card in exchange for its safe return. Once they locate Poh Boy’s car, they discover that there’s a bigger motive as to why he wanted this car returned to him.

New In Theaters Review: The Crazies

In the small town of Ogden Marsh, Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant) doesn’t have much to do. The citizens are quiet and peaceful and it’s basically your picture perfect town. Till one day at a school baseball game one of the citizens comes through the middle of the game with a shot gun. When David tells him to drop the weapon and he instead points it at him, David has no choice but to shoot and kill the resident. David believes that the suspect was drunk, till another resident sets their house on fire after locking his wife and child in the closet. As David and his Deputy, Russell (Joe Anderson) try to figure out what’s going on, they start to come across more and more residents acting strange and bewildered.

New In Theaters Review: Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lighting Thief

Opening at theaters this past weekend was the movie “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief”. This was the first installment of a series of movies being made from the popular Percy Jackson books. In this one, Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) a normal kid in high school discovers that he has been accused of a crime. To make matters worse, this was a crime that was done to the Greek god, Zeus. Someone has stolen his lightning bolt and he believes it was the son of Poseidon who took it. Percy knows nothing about his father being Poseidon, but that soon changes when he is attacked by a mythical creature while on a school trip. Now with the help of his best friend, Grover (Brandon T. Jackson) he discovers that he is a demi-god, and he must learn to wield the strengths and powers that have been passed on to him from his father.

New In Theaters Review: Edge of Darkness

So this past weekend, Mel Gibson came back to the big screen after an almost 8 year leave, in the movie “Edge of Darkness”. The movie is about a veteran homicide cop named Thomas Craven (Mel Gibson), who is so happy to be having his daughter Emma (Bojana Novakovic) coming back home to spend some time with him. On the night of her arrival, Emma gets sick and as they are about to go to the hospital, she is shot dead right in front of Craven. Craven, being a cop for so many years believes that he was the initial target of the assassination. As he starts to investigate the case, he soon learns that his daughter was caught up in a corrupt corporate cover-up that may have been the reason for her murder.
