New In Theatre Review: Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay starring Johnny Cho & Kal Penn

By ewilliams On April 27th, 2008

This week I went to see Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. This is the second installment of this pair’s adventures. This installment starts the day after the last one ended. The two are going to Amsterdam in an attempt to follow Harold’s (John Cho) love interest from the first movie. On there way there, they run into Kumar’s (Kal Penn) college girlfriend at the airport who is getting married to his archenemy Colton Graham (Eric Winter) in Texas. Once on the plane, they are mistaken for terrorist when Kumar is seen lighting a bong in the airplane’s bathroom that is thought to be a bomb. The two are sent to a holding cell for terrorist in Guantanamo Bay by an agent named Ron Fox (Rob Corddry). Once there, they quickly discover that the entire prison population is subject to a special meat sandwich, which they are not to keen to taste. They escape and find their way back to the States via a refugee man made raft that gets them to Miami. There they meet up with a Raza (Amir Talai), an old friend who lends them a car so they can go to Texas to talk to Colton about using his father’s political strength to free them of their charges. On their heels is Agent Fox who will use all the racist blood in his body to recapture our boys. The guys once again run into Neil Patrick Harris (who plays himself) as they did in the first movie, but this time he’s even wackier than he was the first time around. Maybe it’s because he eating shrooms in this one. So in his drugged induced state he takes the guys to a brothel, where he tells them the fun is on him. Well needless to say, before they can have any real fun, Neil does something crazy and the guys have to leave him there. They finally get to Texas and Colton tells them he will ask his father to help them out. But you see Colton doesn’t trust Kumar around his fiancée, so he doesn’t give them much help. They end up getting caught by Agent Fox again, only to escape from his grasp again and find themselves in President Bush’s (James Adomian) Texas ranch. The president finds them in his house and immediately befriends them. Needless to say, he smokes a joint with them.

This movie has a lot of funny scenes in it, and probably double the amount if your partaking in the same mind stimulant our boys do, when you go and see it. The jokes are childish and raunchy staying true to the formula of the first movies success. Rob Corddry gets some of the movie’s funniest jokes playing the racist Agent who use’s everyone’s color against them. Neil Patrick Harris is once again very zany in this movie, as the drug popping, liquor consuming Neil Patrick Harris. I have to admit I laughed out loud a couple of times during this movie, could it have been the joint I smoked in the parking lot? Just kidding, drugs are bad. Don’t do them, watch them being done in films! Anyway I give this movie 2 joints out of 4. It kept me laughing throughout the movie, and even portrayed our president smoking a doobie, which I could see happening. There’s got to be a reason why he’s so wacky. The movie runs 1 hr and 42 mins. It’s rated R for strong crude and sexual content, graphic nudity, pervasive language and drug use. It was written and directed by Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg. It was distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures.

LG VUThe LG Vu is one of AT&T’s latest devices that is focused on the mobile television on the go. This touch screen candy bar is the sister of the Voyager and has the touch screen of an iPhone. The Vu is compatible with AT&T’s Mobile TV service, which is powered by the EDGE connection, and let’s subscribers choose from various AT&T channels right from the head set. With the 3 inch screen and touch screen, videos aren’t constricted to a small viewing screen and the easy program guide is easy to navigate right on the head set.

The basic features include Bluetooth, email capabilities, music and video player, and a 2.0 megapixel with an addition of an antenna that extends for extra viewing coverage. The Vu can read Mp4 video and AAC music files stored from an Micro SD card and it has XM mobile radio for extra entertainment. The touch screen has the appeal of an Iphone, but makes it feel like a normal phone in terms of being a mobile power house. For the couch potato on the run, the Vu will definitely appeal to those who want a touch screen device with out having an Apple sized price tag.
