With Call of Duty Black Ops 4, publisher Activision and Treyarch development team decided to take some risks. An example? The total absence of a story mode, of a single player mode with narrative and cinematographic situations, a trademark of the first person shooters category. But the gamer’s needs change and therefore COD BO IIII has been designed only for multiplayer gaming sessions mainly online. Perhaps this is a risk like those in royal dynasty slot but the numbers definitely seem to repay them.

In fact, after just three days since the launch of the game, currently available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC, Activision has already grossed over $ 500 million from the games sales. These figures will certainly increase more in the next weeks, probably reaching a peak during cyber Monday, black Friday and the period before the end of the year.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has also set other impressive records: the shooter was Activision’s best-selling game ever on day one at PlayStation Store worldwide. Also on Xbox One the situation was similar, beating every previous record of Activision titles on XboxLive. And finally on PC, where despite the change of store (the game is on sale exclusively on Battle.net, the proprietary platform of Activision Blizzard), sales on day one were more than twice compared to last year.

Therefore, the Call of Duty series continues its exponential increase and there is certainly a great interest about how Activision and Treyarch plan to keep the public’s attention focused on their title during the year. For now, statistics are certainly amazing in the face of the many criticisms received about COD over the last few years.

As we wrote at the beginning of the article, Black Ops IIII does not present any single player mode but it’s abundant in terms of multiplayer gaming possibilities. After the more traditional gaming mode, a new Zombie mode has been added for some time where up to four players have to work together to survive the ever-increasing waves of the undead. In BO4 the Treyarch programmers inserted new special maps, for example an arena of ancient Rome and the Titanic before the shipwreck. The zombie mode can also be used locally via split screen for up to four players.

An absolute novelty for the series is Black Out, the Call of Duty version of battle-royale-like games in the style of Fortnite and Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds. Blackout does not revolutionize this type of gaming experience that has been definitely a trend in recent months, but it adds the DNA of Call of Duty. This means that it doesn’t alter the gaming style but simply inserts elements of survival, offering an overall experience in single player or team modes that is convincing especially thanks to a map design that really stands above the competition. The same can be said for the technical quality: although they had to “downgrade” it to accommodate up to 100 players simultaneously, at the moment Black Out is visually at the top in the field of battle-royale-like games.
