This is a big week for gamers thanks to E3 2018 and whether you’re an Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch fan, there’s plenty out there for you to be excited about. And is the case with most of what is shown, we all have our opinions on what were the best games and what were the worst games. For me, I’m mainly a PlayStation 4 player so all my Top 5 games of E3 2018 are games that will end up on the PS4. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t impressed with other games I saw on other platforms, but those just don’t matter to me as much as what I saw coming to the PS4.

With that said, these are my TOP 5 games coming out of E3 2018. (Not in any particular order)

1. Dying Light 2

I know this wasn’t specifically shown as a PlayStation 4 game, but I’ve always been a fan of Dying Light and Techland. I played the crap out of Dying Light and it was by far, one of the most unique and best zombie themed games out there. Who would have thought that parkour and smashing zombies would have gone so well with each other? That’s why Dying Light 2 has me excited. Based of the gameplay footage, Dying Light too is going to be just as fun and amazing in an open world where you can pretty much go anywhere you please. The combat looks just as satisfying and fresh as the original and the new enemy types should bring something new. I’m also in love with how the game changes based on the day and night cycles. It’s one of the things that really made Dying Light unique.

2. Marvel’s Spider-Man

Who the F’ doesn’t like Spider-Man? Definitely not this guy, though I will say I haven’t played a Spider-Man game since way back on the original Xbox. I think this is mainly because most of the previous Spider-Man games just didn’t appeal to me that much in terms of gameplay and substance. However, this latest one from Sony Interactive Entertainmanet and Insomniac Games looks to make Marvel’s Spider-Man the definitive game for anyone who is a fan. What they showed off at E3 looks “Amazing” and “Spectacular”. The open world nature of the game lends itself so well to Spider-Man and the combat looks so fluid and natural. I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on this when it comes out in September.

3. The Last of Us Part 2

The Last of Us was one of the premier games PlayStation when it was released almost 5 years ago on PS3. Since then, it saw a port over to PS4 which is where I played it and really showed that Naught Dog could do gritty, intense story telling. With that said, to say that The Last of Us Part 2 is highly anticipated is an understatement. Fans have been waiting a very long time to see how Ellie has grown and how the world they’ve created has changed for better or worse. When Sony finally showed off some gameplay from The Last of Us Part 2, fans went nuts and so did I. The game itself looks so detailed and alive while the character movements looked so fluid and realistic. You could almost feel every hit Ellie was taking and every hit she was dishing out. It was gruesome and I loved it. In terms of story telling, Naughty Dog seems to have mastered this and the entire trailer as a whole, including Ellie’s new love interest has me super stoked to play this when it finally comes out.

4. Cyberpunk 2077

I love CD PROJEKT RED and what they did with the Witcher series. The Witcher 3 was an epic game and they supported it like a boss. CD PROJEKT RED knows how to please its fans and community which is probably why the game was such a success. With that said, their upcoming game, Cyberpunk 2077 has me super intrigued. I’ve been hearing information about this game in drips and I was finally happy to see a full trailer for it, even though it was just cinematic. The world they’ve created looks immersive and fascinating and I can’t wait to see more of it, especially gameplay.

5. Death Stranding

We all know that Kojima-san is no longer working on anything Metal Gear related and has gone to form his own studio. The first game he’s working on is called Death Stranding and it’s the weirdest freaking game I’ve ever seen. It’s fantastic. It features an all star cast of actual Hollywood heavy hitters and the story to me is still a big freaking mystery. Everything we’ve been shown just gets weirder and more abstract which in turn really makes me want to play it and figure out WTF is going on. Death Stranding may end up being Hideo Kojima’s greated masterpiece, or a giant pile of fail. Either way, I want to be a part of it.

Final Thoughts

While my Top 5 certainly weren’t the only amazing games I saw this year at E3, those were the tops on my list in terms of games I really want to play. There are some honorable mentions however that need to be addressed. These games I thought were also good, but not as mind blowing as my Top 5: Ghost of Tsushima, Kingdom Hearts III, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Devil May Cry 5, CONTROL, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Yes, a Nintendo Switch game).

Well, that’s it for my top 5. Be sure to check out what the other members of G Style had to say about E3 2018 and their Top 5 pics from the show.
