Venom is one of the most formidable characters from Marvel comics. Originally conceived as a super-villain, many years later (due to the popularity of the character) was re-conceived as an anti-hero. Venom is a sentient alien, a Symbiote, sticky consistency between solid and liquid. No different than real-world symbiotes, it requires a human host to bond with for survival. Post bond, the Symbiote provides its host enhanced abilities, that new form refers to itself as “Venom”. In the comics, the Venom Symbiote’s first known host was Spider-Man, then went on to merge with other hosts, famously Eddie Brock, its second and most infamous host. In this case, Brock will be played by Tom Hardy, joining him are Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate and Riz Ahmed as Dr. Carlton Drake. Last December, director Ruben Fleischer of Zombieland fame appeared live via satellite to fans at the Comic-Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He shared with the audience that the comic series where the film draws its inspiration was ‘The Lethal Protector’ and ‘Planet of the Symbiotes’. Now, is Venom part of the on-going Marvel Cinematic Universe? will Peter Parker/ Spider-man be showing up? What’s the timeline for the film? We’ll all find out when it hits theaters this Fall.
