I don’t normally post about Kickstarter projects as most of them really don’t even see the light of day or just aren’t very interesting. Sure once in a while a project comes along that blows our minds, but that’s actually not very often. Today, I was sent a link to the CruxSKUNK by CruxCase. Yes, we’ve seen other keyboard cases before and keyboard add-ons in the past but this one caught my eye mainly because it does indeed make your iPad look like a MacBook.

The CruxSKUNK is like any other keyboard for the iPad and is Bluetooth based and rechargeable. The difference here is that the whole unit also includes a hinge system where the iPad sits securely in the upper portion. You are able to close it up like a laptop, but unlike a laptop, you’re also able to fold it all the way back and use it as a regular tablet as well. The whole thing can also work as  an iPad stand when folded backwards.

In my opinion, it looks pretty nice and doesn’t seem to be as bulky as other keyboard case solutions I’ve seen. I liek the fact that it is made of aluminum and blends in really well with the iPad. The CurxSKUNK isn’t available yet to buy, but CruxCase has almost reached its funding goal on Kickstarter. With 36 days still left to go, they have plenty of time to surpass their goals and make the CruxSKUNK a reality.

Press Release

PROVO, Utah – August 28, 2012 – CruxCase, established by cutting-edge designers of innovative iPad® cases, is pleased to announce the new CruxSKUNK™ campaign now live on Kickstarter. The CruxSKUNK™ is a versatile rotating protective keyboard case for the iPad 2* and the New iPad, transforming it into a compact and powerful laptop.

The CruxSKUNK™ redefines the iPad* with its exclusive hinge technology, allowing the keyboard to rotate 360 degrees for multiple positions: typing, movie watching and portability.  At an ultra slim 6mm, it is the thinnest keyboard ever developed for the iPad. The case is made with aircraft- grade aluminum making it one of the lightest keyboard cases on the market for on-the-go use. In addition, added foam padding in the case allows the iPad to stay in place and prevents scratches. Built with the look of a Macbook Pro and the weight and feel of a Macbook Air, the CruxSKUNK™ also features Bluetooth® connectivity as well as a raised, full-sized QWERTY keyboard. The case comes with a built-in 350 mAH battery to power Bluetooth connectivity and will only need to recharge once a month depending on usage.
