I’m lover of Spotify. I have been using their service since I was able to grab an invite and have been a paying member since my free press trial ended. Spotify has truly replaced my need to store MP3s on my phone. I love the Android app but there was always a few things I wish the mobile app had like the desktop version.

With this new update one or two of those features have crossed over (I’m still waiting for repeat one!). This latest update which isn’t available just yet gives the app a complete UI overhaul. This time around it has a more Android 4.0 look and feel which looks very sexy. Some of the new features include

– Totally new app with full support for Android 4.0
– Top-to-bottom redesign
– All-new slide-out navigation
– Even more social – check out friends’ profile pages and playlists on the go
– Artist imagery in high resolution
– Related artist view – available for the first time on mobile
– So much faster!

Also although not included in this version,  the Spotify team has said it is working hard on adding further features, including folders and Last FM scrobbling, before the app goes live in Google Play.

The new app looks great but there was one thing I noticed that I hope makes it way into the final release. In the old version the app has a Library section that included all the songs you had in playlists and stored locally. I love this feature and it was one that was in the iOS version. I used this the most and I liked to go into this area and let it shuffle all. I hope this returns as I wouldn’t like to have to keep switching between playlists to hear certain songs I would like to listen to.
