Some of the coolest things ever made come out of the land of the rising sun, and the Evangelion SH-06D Smart Phone is definitely one of them. What is an Evangelion you say? To answer that, I would have to direct you to the late 90’s when a Japanese anime (one of my many loves) called Neon Genesis Evangelion made a major impact in both the East and Western parts of the world, with some even calling it the greatest anime ever. While that is debatable, you should definitely do yourself a favor and watch the drama, action, and technology infused classic when you get some free time – oh, and it’s not for the faint of heart.
Though we digress, the impact of the anime is still far reaching and has inspired beautiful gadgets like the SH-06D. NTT DoCoMo, a large communications company in Japan teamed up with animation Studio Khara and Sharp Electronics to design this 4.5-inch, 720p 3D “MAGI†display, 1.2GHz dual core processor, Android 2.3 based handset. It has a custom designed theme based of the Evangelion anime filled with custom widgets, icons, and wallpapers that match the exterior which looks ripped right out of the show itself. It even has 3D versions of the recently released Evangelion movies. The phone is downright sexy. Unfortunately, it’s also a Japanese exclusive and highly limited at that, so pretty much there is a better chance of the third impact happening then seeing this phone over here.
