At a recent conference held in San Francisco, Eric Schmidt has confirmed the upcoming release of Androids Ice Cream Sandwich. After the Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Android 3.0 Honeycomb, people are made excited about the upcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

It has said to be that Ice Cream Sandwich will close the gap between the smartphone optimized Gingerbread and tablet optimized Honeycomb. We still don’t know the version number for Ice Cream Sandwich, But I’m guessing it might be 4.0. The date was set to be in October or November of this year, some are saying November will be the release date because of the Nexus Prime coming out right behind in late November maybe early December.

It has been said that when Ice Cream Sandwich arrives smartphone will not use Gingerbread, tablets will not use Honeycomb, It is because both the smartphones and tablets will use the same Android version.

The Android Open Accessory program brings third-party devices, such as Xbox 360, into the Android fold. It enables you to connect anything that has USB connectivity, such as Xbox controller or USB mouse, which I know a lot of you will be pretty happy about (I know I will).

The announcement was caught on video, now mind you the video is an hour long if you’re like me who hates sitting throw something just to get to the good part, I can sum up what the Chairmen of Google said:

“We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October/November, which everyone’s really excited about.”

There you have it, straight out of Google’s Chairman’s mouth himself, We will be getting a new Android software. I’m pretty excited to see what will come out of Androids Ice Cream Sandwich, especially Androids Open Accessory program, on your tablet is going to be amazing.
